Discover the First Contact sculpture in Elizabeth Quay. This amazing 5-metre tall artwork was created by Noongar artist Laurel Nannup and unveiled in 2016. It tells the story of the Noongar people's first meeting with European settlers, when those sailing ships looked like giant birds floating on the horizon.

The bird's turned head and outstretched wings represent the ship's mast and sail, connecting both cultures. Nannup, who is part of the Stolen Generations, hopes this sculpture will share Noongar stories and be a lasting tribute for her family. By day, it sparkles in the sunlight, and at night, it lights up!
