Explore The Ernie Pyle WWII Museum! Located in the west-central Indiana town of Dana, the site features Ernie Pyle’s birthplace and a museum highlighting the famous journalist’s life and writings as a correspondent during World War II. The historic site is owned and operated by the Friends of Ernie Pyle, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and advancement of Pyle’s legacy.

Ernie Pyle was educated in local schools and studied journalism at Indiana University-Bloomington before setting out on his newspaper career. He maintained contact with his family and hometown throughout his life. He was on assignment as a war correspondent when he died at age 44 on April 18, 1945, after being struck by a Japanese machine gunner’s bullet on Ie Shima, a small island near Okinawa in the South Pacific.

Here in , we host the third largest motorsports event in Indiana, trailing only the Indianapolis 500 and the NASCAR at the Brickyard race. Timed runs up the historic Newport Hill for antique cars and motorcycles, parade, vehicle raffle, car show, food, entertainment, and more. Fun for all!

✨ Did you know Possum Bottom Covered Bridge, also known as the Jackson’s Ford Bridge and Hillsdale Bridge was relocated in 1972 to the Ernie Pyle Rest Park in Dana, IN?

Originally built in 1878, this 131 feet long bridge crossed Little Raccoon Creek about 1 mile west of Hillsdale. The Ernie Pyle Rest Park is a tribute to the WWII journalist who was widely respected by soldiers and families alike. In 1994, the bridge was named to the National Register of Historic Places list.

Tomorrow, August 26, 2023, is the Wabash River Run, a 10.5-mile Canoe and Kayak Race & Family Recreation Day. The event begins at 11 a.m. at Reeder Park in Montezuma and ends at the Clinton Boat Ramp. Proceeds from this race will benefit the Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society. Supporting a great cause while enjoying all that our county has to offer. What better way to spend a Saturday? 🛶☀🌿

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐧𝐚𝐦 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟗-𝟏𝟏.

The Wall is a 3/5 scale replica of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Wall located in Washington, D.C. It stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end (the length of a football field!). The Wall contains the names of more than 58,300 American military members who died during the conflict. It stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. It was made for the purpose of helping to heal and rekindle friendships and to allow people the opportunity to visit loved ones in their hometown that otherwise may not be able to make the trip to Washington, D.C.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐝

"Where in the heck is Eugene, Indiana?" once appeared on a t-shirt years ago. Eugene is a suburb of Cayuga. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐝 has a Cayuga address and as they like to say, are out of the way but out of the ordinary! They hope you will make the trip and see for yourself.

Their roots run deep, celebrating over 𝟑𝟓 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬! Their humble beginning was an antique hutch in a living room that friends and family would shop handmade wooden items.

From there they moved into an old school bus, we had all the seats removed and moved in cabinets and shelves to make a shop. This worked great for years, but as you can imagine candles would melt in the summer.

1986 was the start of what we they today when the original shed was built. They have come a long way, building on to the original shed twice, two more "out" buildings and a lean to have all helped to increase our foot print here in Eugene. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧!
