I always make it a rule to never miss a chance to meet someone who survived the Holocaust. For years, it's been my top priority. If I hear about a meeting I can go to, I make sure I'm there.

On January 27th, which is Holocaust Remembrance Day, I got to meet Niusia Horowitz-Karakulska again. She was born in Krakow in 1932 and still calls the city home. She lived through the Krakow ghetto and Plaszow Camp and even worked for Oskar Schindler.

Now at 92, she's super busy. She gives interviews, meets with young folks, and shares her story.

Why does she do it?

Here's what she says:

"It's important. We can't forget what people can do to each other, both the bad and the good. The fact that we can talk today is a miracle, thanks to Oskar Schindler. That's all there is to it."

Meet Brian, who comes from Warsaw, but not the one in Poland—Warsaw, I

Even though he doesn't have Polish family, he grew up around lots of Polish friends and traditions.

So, for him, everything Polish feels like home.

On our private Krakow tour, Brian was super excited to see the grave of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, a hero known by Polish people in the U.S. too.

It was a highlight for him.

Brian left me a wonderful review:

"Our guide, Zuzanna, was super friendly and knew everything about Krakow. She made us see the city in a special way that we couldn't have done by ourselves. She told us all about the history, culture, where to find yummy Polish food, and even tried to teach us a bit of Polish! She showed us the big famous spots and also little secret spots that you can't find in books or on big group tours. She was so much fun and really excited to show us around. Our tour was a 10 out of 10!"

I'm so happy Brian loved his tour.

My goal is to make everyone feel a special connection to Krakow, showing off its famous places, delicious food, and amazing stories.

Come explore Krakow with me and make your own unforgettable memories.
See you soon!

Discover Krakow's Wawel Castle with a fascinating guide! Imagine standing in the Royal Bedroom, looking up at a 500-year-old larch wood ceiling...

If only this silent witness to kings' intimate lives could talk... It wouldn't tell us anything, becuase the sneaky kings had canopies above their beds 😉

The ceiling is a rare piece from the Renaissance times that has made it through many historical events.

When we explore the castle, I get excited to show visitors this special spot.

Then, we take a moment to peek into the next room to see a modern reconstruction.

It's an incredible chance to compare the two. You'll be amazed by the difference, even if you've never paid much attention to ceilings before!

Thank you for an opportunity to meet these two amazing religious Jewish ladies! Olga Adamowska and Miariam Singe told us about their religious journey and their everyday life in Krakow. I can't wait to share some of their stories with my guests!

Today marks , and I'm thrilled to share a once-in-a-lifetime moment from my visit to Wawel Royal Castle

In December, I captured a selfie with a true legend – a sculpture from the Royal Throne Room's ceiling at Wawel Royal Castle.

Among the 30 original heads adorning the ceiling, this particular one holds a special place in history.

Legend has it, during a trial presided over by King Sigismund Augustus, this bold figure spoke out, influencing the king to overturn a verdict and save an innocent life. The king, in a twist of fate, silenced her forever by placing a boulder over her mouth.

This tale, along with the stunning heads (dating back to 1540s!!!) in the Throne Room, always leaves my guests in awe during our private tours of Wawel Royal Castle.

Last year, these heads were temporarily removed for an exhibition, and seeing this historic figure up close was like meeting a celebrity. I just had to take that selfie! 📸✨

In the ghetto, there is no summer, there are no seasons at all,
and the sun doesn't shine here either.

Everything is always dark and gray", said Roma Ligocka, a survivor of the Krakow ghetto.

Growing up in Poland during the German occupation, Roma Ligocka was recognized for her distinctive strawberry-red coat, a vivid contrast to the increasing gloom around her.

Half a century later, Roma saw Steven Spielberg's "Schindler's List" and immediately realized that the film's "girl in the red coat" – the sole spot of color in the movie – represented her.

The photograph depicts the poignant monument at Krakow's "Square of the Heroes of the Ghetto," a site historically significant as the deportation square.

This memorial features 70 vacant chairs, thoughtfully placed both on the square and at the bus/tram stops, serving as a silent yet powerful reminder of the past.

Let us never forget.

Where Italian flair meets Polish resilience! Gaze upon Wawel Royal Castle's courtyard, a masterpiece from the 1500s, where Italian architects' vision adapted to Poland's snowy embrace. Note the steep roofs, a clever twist to ensure the snow slides off, blending Renaissance elegance with practical northern wisdom. A perfect blend of sunny Italy and snowy Poland in one historic panorama!

Sarah reached out to me in the summer as she was preparing an incredible journey—a voyage to reconnect with the land of her ancestors, Poland. 🇵🇱

She chose two of my private tours to make her experience even more special.

In October, we wandered through the enchanting painted village of Zalipie, where vibrant colors and folklore come to life. Sarah explored this hidden gem with some of her family, creating cherished memories.

Today, we embarked on the profound Auschwitz In-Depth tour, a poignant exploration of history and remembrance. Sarah, accompanied by another part of her family, delved into the rich and somber history of humanity.

What struck me was Sarah's unwavering connection to her Polish heritage. She grew up surrounded by Polish food and traditions, and she ventured to our homeland for nearly three months to immerse herself in the culture and history of her ancestors.

In the midst of daily life in Poland, from the simple act of hanging laundry (there are no dryers in this country, people!!! 🤭) to embracing every facet of our vibrant culture, Sarah embraced it all with grace and courage. 🌾🧺

Sarah, thank you for entrusting me with your precious time and for allowing me to be a part of your incredible journey.

Here's to the exploration of roots, the creation of memories, and the beauty of connections. 🌟

In 2019, Ron and I arranged a tour for August 2020 to explore his step-grandfather's birthplace, Przemysl. Before the pandemic halted our plans, I had begun research and gathered digital archives.

Three long years passed, and last month, his message reappeared in my inbox. Remarkably, I recognized his name immediately, like an old friend returning after a hiatus.

What's more, I still had the digital archive screenshots, carefully preserved on my computer—fragments of Ron's family history, patiently waiting to be woven into a narrative.

This week, together, we ventured into the heart of Przemysl, stepping into the very shoes of detectives, piecing together the intricate puzzle of Ron's heritage.

In the local archive we unearthed more than we had ever hoped for—details that breathed life into long-forgotten stories.

Przemysl's streets whispered tales of days gone by, and I guided Ron to buildings that had witnessed the growth of his grandfather, their timeless facades bearing witness to a bygone era.

But our journey also led us to a place of bitter-sweet remembrance—a solemn visit to the cemetery, where generations of Ron's family had found their eternal rest.

Yet, the painful truth revealed itself—the N***s had demolished this sacred ground, leaving only the tarnished remnants of a gate, standing as a silent sentinel, weathered by time and history.

Our journey was not just a trip through space and time; it was a tribute to resilience, a celebration of newfound connections, and a poignant reminder of the indomitable human spirit.
I am honored to be able to take part in the journey which unraveled the threads of the past, weaving a story that would forever link Ron to the legacy of his family, Przemysl.

This is an amazing story! It was first told to me by the nephew of Mrs. Karnofsky whom I guided here in Krakow ❤❤❤

Did you know that jazz legend Louis Armstrong wore a Jewish Star necklace for most of his life?

Armstrong was born in New Orleans on August 4, 1901.

For the most part he was raised by his grandmother but was also cared for by his Lithuanian Jewish neighbors, the Karnofsky family.

He started off as a delivery boy for the family and was soon given meals, a place to sleep and even included at their Shabbat table.

The jazzman would later write in his memoir that the Karnofskys treated him as though he were their own child. Mrs. Karnofsky used to sing Yiddish and Russian lullabies for him at night before bed.

Later Mr. Karnofsky gave Louis money to buy his first instrument, a $5 cornet. “When I reached the age of Eleven, I began to realize it was the Jewish family who instilled in me Singing from the heart,” Armstrong recalled. “They encourage me to carry on.” Fluent in Yiddish, Armstrong wore a Star of David until the end of his life in memory of this family who helped raise him.

Look at the worn-out seat and the armrests... They are a testament to the countless literary journeys embarked upon by the seat’s occupants.

You can almost see the ghosts of readers past, lost in the pages of novels, memoirs, and poetry.

How many stories have been devoured here, how many imaginations set free, it's a wonder to contemplate…

In the heart of the awe-inspiring Willa Koliba in Zakopane, nestled amid the grandeur of the Tatra Mountains, there exists a reading nook that seems plucked from the dreams of avid bookworms.

An inviting armchair and a matching footrest, meticulously designed by the renowned Stanisław Witkiewicz, the very genius behind the Zakopane style in design.

This nook isn't just a place to read; it's a shrine to the artistry of craftsmanship and the rich tapestry of highlander culture.

In the heart of Vienna, just one year before his father submitted an application to join the NSDAP (N**i Party), Gherard Madritsh came into the world. Meanwhile, in the city of Krakow, a Jewish boy named Bernard Offen, was spending his childhood on Krakusa street which was to become part of the Krakow ghetto.

Yet, within the very confines of that ghetto, Julius Madritsch, the father of Gerhard, appeared as a beacon of hope.

He came to Krakow to run a textile factory, in which he was offering employment to Jews, and he embarked on a perilous journey to save as many lives as possible.

And here, in this moment captured by the lens of history, stands an unassuming figure - me.

Every day, I have the profound privilege of sharing the stories that these remarkable men have lived.

It is an honor beyond measure, breathing life into the past and ensuring that these tales endure for generations to come.
----

Julius Madritsch was awarded with the Medal of Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem in 1964. He saved about 1500 people from being sent to death camps.

Bernard Offen (born 1929) is the only survivor from his family of four.

The lynx, you see, is a creature of solitary and nocturnal habits, veiling its life story in mystery and shadows.

With a mere dozen of these magnificent beings, including the young, dwelling within the confines of the park, are nothing short of living treasures.

Tylka, the exquisite and gentle mother, navigates her way through the thickets and underbrush, teaching her kittens the art of survival, the dance of silent paws on soft earth, and the delicate balance of life and death in the wild.

Robert is a photographer.

He trusted me with his time to photograph the Aischwitz-Birkenau Memorial Museum.

With some of my planning and a lot of luck, we managed to get a lot of amazing, intimate shots like this one.

It started with a surprizing message.

"I am Ed's brother who you have been emailing about our upcoming trip to Krakow where we have tours arranged with you.

I was hoping that you could help me arrange a surprise birthday dinner/party for my brother that week."

Surprize birthday party? 🥳 I am on board!

We organized a special dinner and a private boat ride during sunset!

Ed seemed happy, especially when he saw there was cold Polish beer waiting on board 🍻

🌍 Mary's adventures are a testament to her UNESCO quest!

📩 It all began with a message, where Mary requested a tailor-made tour to explore her chosen destinations.

🌟 Today, our journey led us to two UNESCO Heritage Sites, and the joy was palpable! 🥰

🏰 First, we ventured into the mesmerizing Salt Mine in Wieliczka, a subterranean wonder where salt and wood weave an enchanting tapestry.

🚶‍♂️ Then, we strolled through the historic heart of Krakow, exploring the Old Town and Jewish Quarter, uncovering hidden treasures....
.. and savoring traditional ice cream – a treat not on the heritage list, but deserving to be!

❤️ Thank you, Mary, for a truly splendid day of discovery!

3 Ways in Which It Is Better To Guide a Live-Streamed Tour Rather Than an In-Person Tour 🙈

1. You can keep Starbucks & McDonald's out of sight 🤫🍔

2. You can walk through souvenir areas without making a shopping stop🪆
(Unless you buy something for yourself to make the live tour a real experience 🤑)

3. In case of rain, the entire group can hide in your bag 😁🌧

The pictures have been taken 2 days ago during my first live tour in 4 months.

I am so happy that tourism is back, and I am very busy... but I now I miss this ❤
