Blaming religion for slow development is another form of superstition among Africans. Most foreign investment managers don’t think of investing in Africa for reasons a lot of Africans don’t know, because only a few tens of thousands of us understand the global capital markets.

Investment managers are companies that pensions, insurance companies, charities and wealth people give their savings investment money to, asking them to find good returns.

If you don’t know already, most of Africa is called a “frontier market”? A what? A “FRONTIER market”! What the watermelon is a frontier market?

Investing in various markets requires an understanding of their unique characteristics and risk profiles.

Today I am going explain the key differences between mature markets, emerging markets, frontier markets, and integrated markets:

1. Mature Markets:

Mature markets, also known as developed markets, are economies that have reached a high level of economic development and stability. These markets are characterized by well-established financial systems, efficient infrastructure, and high levels of industrialization. Some common features of mature markets include:

- Stable political and legal systems.
- Established regulatory frameworks.
- Advanced technology and infrastructure.
- Highly liquid and efficient financial markets.
- Mature industries with steady growth rates.
- Lower potential for rapid growth but relatively lower risk compared to emerging and frontier markets.
- Generally, lower returns on investment compared to riskier markets.

Examples of mature markets include the United States, Canada, most Western European countries, Japan, and Australia.

2. Emerging Markets:

Emerging markets, also known as developing markets, are economies that are in the process of rapid industrialization and experiencing significant economic growth. These markets offer higher growth potential but come with higher risks and volatility. Key characteristics of emerging markets include:

- Rapidly expanding economies with higher GDP growth rates.
- Growing middle-class population and increasing consumer spending.
- Improving infrastructure and industrialization.
- Less developed financial markets with higher volatility and liquidity concerns.
- Political and regulatory risks can be elevated compared to mature markets.
- Higher potential for returns on investment due to faster economic growth.

Examples of emerging markets include Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Africa, and several Southeast Asian countries.

You are probably thinking .. where is the rest of “Africa”? It didn’t make the Goldman Sachs report that coined the phrase “BRICS” .. so let’s look at Frontier Markets!

3. Frontier Markets:

Frontier markets are economies that are at an even earlier stage of development than emerging markets. These markets often have less-developed financial systems, lower liquidity, and higher political and economic risks. Key characteristics of frontier markets include:

- Lower levels of industrialization and infrastructure development.
- Less mature financial markets with limited investment opportunities.
- Higher political and governance risks.
- Lower liquidity, making it challenging to buy or sell investments quickly.
- Potential for significant growth but accompanied by higher levels of uncertainty.

Examples of frontier markets include Nigeria, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia.

Part of these definitions are quite arbitrary and mental. Nobody thinks the LIBOR scandal, the credit crunch, the FX scandal, the diesel scandal, the WorldCom scandal, the Enron scandal, the Dotcom bubble, the CDO scandal, or any kind of disaster that could wipe out trillions of dollars is a risk of instability. A Confederation of Asteroids aiming directly at the planet and threatening all life on earth may be considered safer than Frontier markets.

4. Integrated Markets:

Integrated markets refer to global financial markets where investments can be easily bought or sold across borders without significant restrictions. These markets are highly interconnected and interdependent, facilitating international capital flows. Characteristics of integrated markets include:

- Easy access to foreign investment opportunities for investors.
- Global financial institutions operate across these markets.
- High levels of transparency and efficiency in transactions.
- Exchange rates play a crucial role in determining investment returns.
- Investors can diversify their portfolios across various countries and regions.

Examples of integrated markets include major global financial centers like New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

Investors consider many factors even when they invest in mature markets. They consider their risk tolerance, investment objectives, and time horizon when allocating funds across mature, emerging, and frontier markets.

Mature markets provide stability and lower risk, 😉 😉 while emerging and frontier markets offer higher growth potential but come with increased volatility and uncertainty.

Integrated markets provide opportunities for international diversification and access to a broader range of investment options.

A well-balanced investment strategy may involve a combination of investments in different market types to achieve diversification and potentially higher returns, usually without allocations to Frontier markets.

ABOUT KRIBI - CAMEROON

Kribi is the headquarter of the Ocean Division, in the South Region of Cameroon . At some 6 km to downtown, the first picture one gets is endless water with a spectre-like horizon. Thus, is the introduction to Cameroon hottest seaside town, a well-known touristic site. A top-class seaside town, second to none, with its beautiful sandy beaches. 7km away from town are the beautiful Lobe Falls, a one-of-a kind beauty. A river that flows into the sea through cataracts, pygmies’ villages buried in the surrounding forest. Kribi is naturally referred to as the Cameroonian Riviera. Most often, tourists after a first trip come back. With such natural endowment, Kribi has gradually developed a wide range of touristic infrastructures that meet all budgets. In terms of catering, these range from the neighbourhood tavern specialised in local or national dishes to high class restaurants meeting international standards, and in terms of accommodation, from small discreet hostels to 3-star hotels.
In addition to fishing, a traditional activity, cocoa farming has become the main economic activity since the colonial period.
As concerns weather, Kribi has an equatorial climate with four seasons: a big dry season, big rainy season, a small dry season and a small rainy season.
It is home to one of the only 2 Deep seaports in Cameroon, Port Autonome de Kribi.

ABOUT: BAZARUTO (MOZAMBIQUE)

The archipelago boasts iconic megafauna, including whales, sharks, sailfish, manta rays, dolphins, marlin and nesting marine turtles, as well as the region’s last viable population of dugong.

ABOUT: KRIBI (CAMEROON)

Kribi is a resort town and port in the South Region of Cameroon. It's known for its sandy beaches. At the mouth of the Kineke River, Kribi lighthouse was built in 1906 by German colonizers and is still in use today. To the south, Tara Plage is a beach with strong Atlantic surf. Nearby, the Chutes de la Lobé waterfall plunges directly into the sea. From the falls, boats run upriver to Bagyeli native settlements.

Kribi is equally very popular for its roasted fish. Fishermen typically come in from the sea on week-ends and sell fresh fishes that tourists can then buy and have roasted in many restaurants around the beach. The nightlife especially in places in like Big-BEN is also among some of the exciting things to do in Kribi.

It is a great place to visit.

ABOUT: ZAMBIA

“Mulibwanji” (hello) from Zambia.🙂
Zambia in southern Africa, is a landlocked country of rugged terrain and diverse wildlife, with many parks and safari areas. On its border with Zimbabwe is famed Victoria Falls – indigenously called Mosi-oa-Tunya, or "Smoke That Thunders” – plunging a misty 108m into narrow Batoka Gorge. Spanning the Zambezi River just below the falls is Victoria Falls Bridge, a spectacular viewpoint.

Zambia is characterised by its miombo woodlands, large lakes and vast floodplains as well as spectacular waterfalls and mighty rivers. It is one of the last true wilderness areas in Africa, some say an undiscovered gem, either way the wildlife is abundant and the people are friendly.
It is usually called "The Real Africa".
