Day 11 (last day) of the Essential Egypt Tour
We left Cairo at 6am, and drove 3 hours north to Alexandria, visiting a Roman Catacombs, Roman Ampitheater Ruins, the Library of Alexandria, and Qaitbey Citadel.
A delicious seafood feast at a local, family-run restaurant was our final meal together 🥺.
We rested during the 3 hour drive back to Cairo, and everyone said their goodbyes before going up to pack bags and get ready for the next day’s flights back home.

Essential Egypt Tour, Day 5
We woke up at 6am for breakfast, and by 6:45 we were on the desert highway to Abu Simbel Temple. Leaving a bit later than other companies (who usually leave around 4:30am) meant that when we got to Ramses the Great’s temple complex, it was almost empty!
My guests loved having Abu Simbel almost to ourselves, and after a couple hours at this ancient site we did the 4 hour drive back to Aswan, and started cruising north on the Nile River on our Dahabiya Yacht, Kemet (Kemetale).

@fasahetsomaya is a delicious Egyptian restaurant where all the food is served home-cooked style. It’s just steps away from Tahrir Square, in the center of downtown Cairo.
Somaya is only open two hours, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and she might run out of food before 7:00 p.m, so try to show up early if you can.
Their menu is in English and in Arabic, and the food changes every day, so Somaya posts on Instagram and also Facebook the night before for the following day’s menu.
This time, we had amazing mombar (sausage casings stuffed with rice), fattah (rice, beef, bread, and tomato sauce),torshy (pickles), and kebda (liver) all Egyptian food cookedjust like it would be in someone’s home.
And as you can see, we ate everything in sight and I’m definitely going to be back soon.
Would you eat at an authentic local restaurant like this in Cairo? What do you think? Or what questions do you have? Drop a comment and let me know 🙂
