This morning, our UK press and media opted once again to offer some speculation about what might be in store next for the world of travel.

The headlines are screaming that we will all face fines of £5,000.00 if we travel before the 30th June.

The truth of the matter is that the Government are simply planning to make an amendment to the Coronavirus Act to enable them to impose fines - at this stage it does not mean that the current ban on international travel has been extended and we are all still working towards the previously given “potential”restart date for holidays which is the 17th May.

Things may change once the Global Travel Task Force present their report on the 12th April. But until then, please ignore the so called 'experts' on social media and in the tabloid press and wait for an official announcement.

Booking and planning for future holidays beyond the 17th May is NOT illegal at the moment. And if you use a qualified travel professional like myself to organise your booking I will ensure you are taken care of every step of the way.

Travel IS going to return, borders WON’T be closed forever, and I for one can’t wait for the time when we can all travel safely again.

Ok so now we at least have the beginnings of a game plan! And god knows we all need something to look forwards to ...

12th April - UK Self catering holidays allowed
17th May - Hotels in the UK open
17th May - Earliest point for International holidays (under review but hopefully by end of June at the latest)

If you were thinking of an International holiday then I think these will be allowed this summer (but possibly only to certain locations) ... forward planning is also an option into 2022 and beyond.

Well I think I can safely say that 2020 has been the most challenging year in which to operate my travel business!

I am pleased to say that looking to the future things are certainly a lot more positive than they were earlier in the year. With the great news of a vaccine being rolled out in the coming months, along with airport testing developments which could lead to reductions in the time spent in self isolation on returning from holiday - this all points me to thinking that 2021 is going to be a bumper year for making all your travel dreams come true!

In the world of Travel Counsellors we have been living a very different life from many of you these past weeks .. like chasing away from a hurricane , we have rebooked, cancelled, rerouted our clients constantly and many cases over and over .. we’ve worked ridiculous hours and for no pay. Whilst clients slept in Australia and Africa we have rallied together to work out just how to bring them home as airlines cancelled and stopped schedules and countries closed borders. With less than 24 hours to fly people home as Colombo airport closed and many other places giving us not much longer . We’ve still managed to laugh about toilet rolls and the stockpilers - even create a page in what we can make for dinner with what you’ve left us on the shelves ! But if anyone thinks the role of a travel agent is sitting at a desk 9-5 and saying ‘computer says no’ or that there is no need for us as people ‘book on line’ then you have not met the absolutely amazing team that Is Travel Counsellors !

If anyone has booked a flight directly with EASYJET please check your booking now, EASYJET are cancelling bookings without emailing any confirmation of doing so, you will only know if your flights have been cancelled when you log into your account. This applies to lots of routes across their network - I have just realised that some of my clients flights have been cancelled without any notification. Very important to check this if you are in Europe right now as some people have been re booked onto alterative flights that have already departed ! (not my clients of course!)

Thomas Cook has ceased trading | Civil Aviation Authority

Please make sure if you have been affected by the Thomas Cook collapse that you only put in a claim via the CAA to get your money back, this is going to take a while to come through but we have been advised that there are some SCAM calls been made to customer who have been affected asking for credit card details saying they will be getting a full refund and then scamming them out of money!!
There are some really sad horrible people out there to be doing this.

You may have seen news reports about the uncertainty surrounding Thomas Cook, and as a member of the travel industry it’s extremely sad to see. Although we hope that the company pulls through we can’t help but immediately think of the people who may be affected, and the travellers who have bookings with Thomas Cook and are yet to travel.
