South Kensington… Anyone know the original name of this area? Now a familiar name on the Tube map, it is our museum quarter in London… but it is SO much more than that. Here is a vibrant centre for knowledge and learning, key to progress in Victorian London and home of one of our greatest universities. Imperial College, ranked consistently in the top 10 universities of the world, was once the Imperial Institute (picture 2). With expansion after WWII it’s beautiful building was destroyed and replaced by modern laboratories, lecture halls and facilities to create a rival centre for scientific and technological education to those of the USA. The Queen’s Tower is all that remains of this today. To learn more join me on 3rd October 6.30pm BST for a virtual tour of this fascinating sector of London. This tiny area has so much to reveal. Albert, husband to Queen Victoria and Prince Consort was quite a remarkable man. There are so many places named after him in London… here we have the Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Memorial, both built after his death in 1861. But why is this whole area named after him… Albertopolis? Find out on my new Virtual Tour of South Kensington on Sun 3 Oct at 6.30 BST. We will be rerunning popular tours from last winter and adding new tours this autumn. Virtual Tours London are brought to you by Anna of London. Link in bio to booking. &Amuseum &a

How exquisite... how precious... how valuable! So valuable that a magnificent chapel was created for it in Paris! The Crown of Thorns was saved from destruction in the Norte Dame fire recently. In the British Museum we have an amazing piece which was created to contain just one thorn from this crown... and it is quite overwhelming in its intricacy... telling the story of the Christian relationship with the heavens of 600 years ago. Join me to find out more on Friday 5th March... Medieval treasures of London museums... a virtual tour... book on www.virtualtourslondon.co.uk
