👋 Popping in to say hello again! It's been a while, and I'm so excited to catch you up on the adventures we had this summer 🤩

As a Coles Notes overview:

Settled Nomads led 5 Multi-Day Tours this summer! We were out on trips for a total of 35 days between June - August 🗓️

🗺️ We worked with lovely folks, including Insight Global Education, Great Earth Expeditions, Adventures in Good Company, and Girl Guides of Canada!

We got to adventure with 41 Canadian and 13 US travellers, and share in the experience with 14 chaperones, facilitators, & other guides along the journey 🧳

Most recently our home base has moved from Halifax to Wolfville, NS! We can't wait to explore the Valley even more and share it with you 🧭

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston, 13 chiefs and a slew of other dignitaries were in in Potlotek First Nation on Sunday morning for the proclamation of the new Mi'kmaw Language Act. The act sees Mi'kmaw officially recognized as the province's first language.

Meghan Symonds is an African Nova Scotian woman and the entrepreneur behind Halifax Charcuterie, a business aimed at sharing good food! Founding Halifax Charcuterie in 2021, Meghan is keen to make charcuterie more accessible by sharing her learnings about food pairings, as well as the history and knowledge behind different foods.

The charcuterie-style picnic lunches offered on Eastern Shore Escape tours give a special highlight to Halifax Brewery Farmers’ Market vendors 👩‍🌾 as well as other local businesses!

“As a solo traveler, traveling in the off-season, I struggled to find activities that would calm the ‘ants in my pants’ to make my Nova Scotia vacation full of adventure.

Chelsea created a custom itinerary that was both easy to follow, fun, and had my personality in mind.

It was a great balance of fun activities (Sand Dollars and Amos Pewter and Bingo at Saltbox Brewing) to picking up a surprise picnic box from LaHave Bakery and walking along Crescent Beach.

I had plenty of activities to choose from (and a beautiful, sunny day that was in my favor) and a plethora of additional dining suggestions.

I would absolutely book another tour again; it was a great value and a wonderful way to explore the South Shore area. Thanks again!”

Have you met Blair and Kim?

They started Ataraxy Farm in 2013 as a therapy farm to help Blair with his PTSD from his military service. When they chose the name for the farm it had to have meaning. Ataraxy means a "state of serene calmness"; and those who visit the farm feel just that, calm.

For 8 years they kept the little farm a secret, except to friends and family. In 2021, they finally decided to share their farm with the public. Since opening to the public, the farm has grown to help many others.

Many now come to the farm seeking animal therapy with their horses, donkeys, mule, goats, and chickens.

They are also a diary goat farm. They milk their goats by hand daily, using the milk to produce skin care and hair care products.

Ataraxy Farm has partnered with EXA Group Canada, to develop the first sustainable tourism system at the farm.

Their project is in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and will create much value for the local community. In addition, they are developing an action model to combat climate change and intend to transform Ataraxy Farm into 100% net-zero carbon by 2030.

This project initiates the StrongFarm Destinations program, Nova Scotia's first sustainable tourism destination development program in rural communities.

📅 Two years ago yesterday, Settled Nomads officially began.

April 3, 2020 marks the date our business was registered and incorporated.

Not coming from a business background, these milestones are exciting as they mark many hurdles I’ve been able to leap over. It has been exciting to see myself grow, learn, and develop new skills throughout the process of building my business.

What is your why behind starting your business?

I wanted sustainability and tourism to collide; for sustainability to be embedded into the tourism industry and become the default norm, making it easier to be a responsible traveller.

I believe tourism can be used as a force for good. Driven for a better future, Settled Nomads is actively working to contribute towards a thriving tourism industry that operates within global limits and promotes well-being.

I recognized the need for system change across the industry, to accelerate a just transition towards carbon-free tourism. I aim to provide better travel experiences for resilient explorers, with adventures that are good for people and the planet.

Thank you for sharing in my entrepreneurial journey! I am looking forward to another season with everyone ☀️
