How Coronavirus is Impacting Global Tourism

1. Travel Ban
China is world's largest outbound travel industry with more than 150 million outbound trips annually. In order to contain the spread of coronavirus, the authorities in China have to enforce a ban on travelling. This ban has been applied to at least 35 million people thus far, and the number is likely to increase.
China has temporarily banned its citizens from booking overseas tours along with overseas flights and hotel booking.
Hong Kong and Russia have closed their borders with China and have halted travel permits to Chinese tourists.

2. Suspended Flights and Airport Screenings
Several airlines have stopped all their flights to China. Airlines are facing a major downfall in stocks and value.
China Eastern Airlines has already fallen in value by 13%.
United Airlines which is one of the most popular airlines for U.S.-China, has dropped by 9%.
Airports throughout the world have added extra security measures to prevent the spreading of coronavirus. All people arriving from China have to undergo screenings, thermal testing, blood tests and more. How does that look like for a tourist??

3. Renowned destinations closed
Many of the renowned tourist sites in China including Disneyland, The Great Wall of China, Beijing's Forbidden city and many other famous attractions are closed.
In addition, famous resorts such as Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts are also facing the heat and both have lost more than 8% stocks in the past week alone.

Australian tourism industry is highly worried because of the bushfires and its reputation is also at stake. Tourism and tourists are affected by the deadly wildfires in Australia. While there is no significant data yet, but it is being feared that the bushfires will give a significant blow to the tourism industry.
The hotel industry in Sydney saw a drop of 10 percent in occupancy in December 2019.
U.S. embassy officials warned tourists to leave Australia's South Coast due to extreme fire danger.
The Australian Tourism Industry Council has warned that international tourists are being scared by the images of fire which can cost the tourism industry hundreds of millions of dollars.
