Bor Sang Handicraft Village

Bor Sang mid-sized craft village about nine kilometres east of the Old City specialises in the paper umbrella-making craft. Well known for outstanding handcraft quality as well as signature floral designs, Bor Sang Village has made its name throughout the country and abroad – so much so that the name Bor Sang has become synonymous with the paper-umbrella craft itself and the umbrella, a cultural symbol of Chiang Mai.

Bor Sang Highlights: You can watch the craftsmen and women putting together the umbrellas from scratch. In an assembly-line setup, you will be able to tour all the stations, from the making of the smallest parts to fully assembled parts, the drawing station, sundry station (a green lawn laden with vibrantly coloured umbrellas of all sizes) and the finished product ready to be displayed in craft shops.

Chiang Mai Zoo and Aquarium

The Chiang Mai Zoo and Aquarium was established in 1977 and is located on the slopes of Doi Suthep mountain, in the north-western part of Chiang Mai city.
The zoo covers around 200 acres of land and houses over 400 hundred species of animals as well as a large aquarium with over 200 species of marine animals. You will find a wide variety of animals inside the zoo including tigers, rhinos, zebras, lions, penguins, koalas, giraffe and so much more. One of the main attractions is Lin Hui the giant Panda.

Doi Inthanon National Park

Doi Inthanon National Park is home to the highest mountain in all of Thailand, an extension to the Shan Hills and made mostly from granite. The park covers a land area of 48,240 hectares, The highest point of the mountain is 2565 metres tall and has been known to hit lows of -8 degrees centigrade, whilst visiting the Park you cannot help but notice the number of birds that you will see, Doi Inthanon is home to more species of bird than anywhere else in Thailand.

Mon Cham

Mon Cham is located on a hill ridge in the area of Mong Nong Hoi village, Mae Rim. It is 40 minutes far from the central of Chiang Mai. The area was previously a desolate forest and was named as Kiu Seau. Later, villagers came over the area and turned it into an O***m farm. But, finally, the Royal Project took over and changed the area into Nong Hoi Royal Project. The weather up here in Mon Cham gets chilly all year around and you will get to wake up to an early morning fog. Besides, there are many view points up here where you can spot the spectacular view of green mountains. Also, on the top of the mountain on the east, there is a view point called 'Mon Long' which is a perfect spot for seeing the whole area of the Royal Project as well as the sea mist.

Wat Chedi Luang

Built sometime between 1385 and 1402, during the reign of King Saen Muang Ma, 7th ruler of the Mengrai dynasty, Wat Chedi Luang's massive chedi (pagoda) is a distinctive feature of the Chiang Mai skyline. At its peak, the chedi measured 60 metres across at the square base and 80 metres tall and was once the home of the Emerald Buddha, Thailand's most sacred religious relic. It now houses a replica, as the original resides in Bangkok. The temple was rebuilt in 1990 thanks to funds from UNESCO, and the building and grounds are extremely picturesque. The best time to visit is in the month of May, when a festival to celebrate the city pillar, which sit within the temple grounds, is celebrated. The Buddha at this temple is reclining.

Chiang Mai has deferred its plans to reopen the Saturday Wualai Walking Street and Sunday Rajdamnoen Road Walking Street, as well as the Night Bazaar for the time being, due to many unfavourable factors, Natthachudej Wiriyadiloktham, the deputy mayor of Chiang Mai Municipality, said.

The Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden

The Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden is located 30 minutes north of Chiang Mai, along the windy road to Samoeng. The Botanical Garden Chiang Mai was opened in 1992 and is a centre to promote research, biodiversity and allow visitors to see the most diverse natural plants that Thailand has to offer. The Garden is set in a valley surrounded by rainforest and there is a whole range of different areas to visit. Visitors can walk around the flower gardens, banana path or enter one of the many different greenhouses – Savanna House, Orchid House or the Carnivorous Plant House. Another highlight of the gardens is a 400 metre canopy walkway which is suspended over the jungle canopy and gives an enlightening perspective of nature from high up in the air.

Wat Ban Den
The Wat Ban Den is located North of the city is one of Chiang Mai’s most remarkable temples. It is also one of the largest temple complexes in Chiang Mai province. The complex contains a large number of structures including an ordination hall, a viharn, a meditation hall, the kuti or monks living quarters, a drum hall and several other buildings. The main temple building is built with teakwood and granite tiles and is in the Lanna style. One innovative feature of Wat Ban Den is that the 12 chedis that are dedicated to each one of the 12 Animals of the Thai Zodiac, and sculptures of these animals are prominent throughout the temple grounds. In 2009, Wat Ban Den had fifteen major buildings constructed including a Meditation Hall, Sermon Hall, Great Hall and an Inthakin Pillar. The one and only Abbot known as Kruba Tuang, is behind these constructions by rising fund to inherit and rebuild this temple.

Wat Phra Singh

Wat Phra Singh is perhaps the second most venerated temple in Chiang Mai after Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It houses three main structures, the main attraction being the elegantly decorated Lai Kam assembly hall and its restored murals depicting the lives of locals hundreds of years ago. Located inside the old city wall, at the western end of Ratchadamnoen Road, the temple’s signature Lanna-style roofs and glittering viharn (assembly hall) invite visitors. The walled-in temple compound is busy with visitors and worshippers all year round and is usually packed during the Thai New Year festival (Songkran) in mid-April.

Wat Ket Karam
Wat Ket Karam is located around Ping River. The temple is quite well-known, because it is the storage of the Buddha’s relics ‘Chedi Kade Kaew Chula Manee’, which is a valuable archaeological evidence. And, for your information, the relics is the fortunate symbol for whoever born in year of the dog. Wat Phan On

The Wat Phan On is one of the smaller temples in the old walled city of Chiang Mai. It was built in 1501 during the reign of the Lanna King Mueang Kaeo. The temple complex consists of a large viharn, a golden chedi and the kuti or monks living quarters. The Wat Phan On temple holds one of the most beautiful chedis in Chiang Mai. The chedi was built in 2007 and named the Sareerikkatartsirirak Pagoda, named by the King of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). The chedi contains red niches on all of its four sides in which Buddha images are enshrined. Next to the chedi is a very large gong.
