Fall is an exciting time of the year for me as a bird watcher because it is the time of the year for the fall warblers to migrate to Bonaire. These birds must migrate to where insects are still abundant. Cold weather in North America has removed their food from under their sharp eyes, so they try a ancient behavior that has always meant survival for these tiny, colorful birds- migration to the Caribbean for the winter.
I look for Blackpoll Warblers, Northern Waterthrush, Prothonotary Warblers, Hooded Warblers, and many other brightly colored and tiny winged creatures. August and September every year is when I make my first encounter with these beautiful warblers.
Join me by calling 701-7960 and I will pick you up at 7:30am and we will finish around 1pm.

Enjoy the many photos on my web page, and keep up with my sightings by continually visiting this web page.

Most common migrant warbler in October here on Bonaire. Experienced a fall out during a night of rain last October. Nocturnal migrants often get forced to the ground, if they are over land, during rain. We saw around 25 that morning of birding.

For more than 50 years, scientists had tantalizing clues suggesting that Blackpoll Warbler departs each fall from New England and … Read More

Hope is going strong! She will soon be winging her way back from her tropical wintering grounds on Great Pond, in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, where she has faithfully wintered for the last 7+ years, to her first spring stopover site in Virginia on her long migration back to her Arctic wintering grounds. Wishing you safe travels, Hope!

Bobolinks are social throughout most of the year. They sit on high perches in meadows, but forage while walking on the ground.

He at least matched the previous high of 748, and potentially exceeded it – pending the acceptance of two other species! Read on for a well-written detaile…

We see "hunting buddies" almost every dive here in Bonaire, if you know what to look for. I make a point of showing this behavior in my course "Dive with the Naturalist."
