Your's truly totally agrees in my interview with ABC news. If you look closely at the typical tourist areas of Mexico like Cancun, Cozumel, Cabo San Lucas etc. they are over 1000 miles from the areas of trouble. The State Department advisory is not for these tourist areas - but when you hear they are issuing a warning for 'Mexico' -tourists get confused. Thats like saying if there is high crime in Chicago, do not go to vacation in Miami or don't go shopping in New York! We all live in high crime cities, but since we are comfortable living in one and are familiar with our surroundings, we get a false sense of security. In my humble opinion, the crime in the large cities in the USA far exceeds the crime in any of the tourist areas in Mexico. Of course you should exercise caution as you would here in the USA! Remember Aruba - the guy who did it was not even from Aruba but from Holland - the folks in Aruba got a bad rap for over 2 years! Moreover the Mexican Tourist Industry depends largely on the tourist trade and special precautions are taken to protect the tourist areas The targets are the local drug traffickers competing for territory in the border areas with the US to export to their largest consumer - the USA! - let's be fair folks! Thank you Demond Fernandez of ABC for your clarifications.
Mexico's top domestic security official says a U.S. State Department travel warning on almost half of Mexico's states is 'ridiculous' and 'out of proportion'
