The house in this photo was part of a marketing campaign that Spain had to promote itself. The slogan? “Spain is different .” 😂 Other countries promoted there eiffel tower, colosseum or iconic bridges… Spain promoted this lopsided upside down house.
To set the record straight, it is well worth visiting the town of this unique place, .

Holm oak trees are native to the Iberian peninsula. They are more commonly found in the interior, whereas the cork oak grows better closer to the coast. The wood has been highly valued throughout history as it is a hard, durable wood which takes a long time to rot. The acorns are the nain source of food for the prized Iberian pigs. So without this majestic tree, there would not be “Jamon Iberico.” My personal favourite use for this wonderful species is to enjoy its cool inviting shade on a hot summer day.

Palace sotofermoso is the type of place that you have to look past the initial neglected appearance to appreciate the rich history and absolute beauty of past days. This palace was the scene of many important historic events. It had all the makings of a fairy tale palace: princes and princesses meeting for the 1st time before their arranged marriage, kings and queens returning to celebrate after long battles, gardens with musical fountains that were among the most stunning in europe, secret passages, political alliances and weighty desicions. Don’t miss this unknown gem, but be sure to read up on its history in advance.

This year we decided that as most of Spain heads to the Mediterranean coast for summer vacation, we would head north and take advantage of the space, avoid people and social distance by hiking and enjoying nature. Turns out that the rest of Spain had the same idea this year! We still managed to find spots that were quite and away from people, but it took a bit more effort.
Here is an article from our first attempt at which we failed because we didn't realize how crowded everything would be.

Seeing rural Spain is best done on foot, hiking one trail at a time. Faro del Caballo is a trail along towering cliffs above the ocean that show off fabulous vistas of the Cantabria sea as well as Santander and surrounding towns. It is an easy hike until the final stretch which involves over 700 sta

When things start opening back up in Spain it will happen very slowly, & we are told that tourism will be one of the last things to get back to "normal."
My personal opinion (for what it is worth) is that mass tourism, as Spain has been known for in the past, will be discouraged for some time to come. I suggest heading to the small villages.
The villages and rural regions are often overlooked, but to me, have the real heart and soul of Spain. You can walk through one of these walled medieval villages and feel like you are taken back in time and almost expecting a knite in full battle gear to come riding through the streets up to the castle on the hill.
Here is one such village which is less than an hour from Madrid: Pedraza
What village(s) would you recommend visiting?

Have you ever wanted to step back in time and really see and feel what life was like 700 years ago? Head to Pedraza in the province of Segovia, Spain and you can pretty much do just that. This enchanting village has changed very little in character over the past centuries and can immerse you in hi

It's true this feed is all about Spain, but if you have been following me for a while you know I am from Canada. I was asked to write a short blurb about my home town (or the closest town to my home town) Fernie BC for a fellow blogger. So, if Spain's heat is getting a little oppressive at the moment, you might want to take a moment to look at some of the 25 best and most charming towns in Canada. Pedraza—which is on the list of "most beautiful villages in Spain—is putting on its annual Candle Lit Streets. The entire town is full of candles, all electrical lights are turned off and an orchestra is playing in the square. How romantic is that??? This event is always the 1st and 2nd Saturday of July. Check with Turismo Pedraza Segovia for details.

What are tapas and where can I get them? Rick Steves just wrote an article in the USA today giving his insight.

My favourite quote of the article is "To survive the Spanish eating schedule, adopt their eating style.".. and he goes on to explain that you will need tapas to tide you over until the real meal. So true.

Where was your best tapa moment?

Opt for tapas in Spain and you'll be rewarded with bite-size punches of flavor, a reasonable bill, and the unrelenting energy of the locals.
