BAGUIO CITY – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts temperatures in mountainous areas of Luzon to drop to around 9°C in February 2025. This chilly weather is attributed to the northeast monsoon and shear line effects.

The National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) of the Philippines recently announced an official update to the country's island count, increasing the long-held figure of 7,107 to an incredible 7,641 islands. These islands are distributed across the Philippines' three major island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

This remarkable increase is credited to advancements in technology, particularly the use of Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IFSAR), which enabled more accurate mapping and the discovery of previously undocumented landforms.

The , renowned for its rich and varied geography, has long harbored these hidden islands, which remained undetected due to earlier technological constraints and the constantly evolving nature of its landscapes.
