Agung update
BIG CHANGE - DOWN to Level 2

The hazard warning level for Agung volcano has been reduced from level 3 (III
Standby) to level 2 (II stay alert), it has just been announced.

The exclusion zone has reduced from 4km to 2km radius, but climbing Agung is still forbidden, according to the Indonesian government.

The decision follows decreased activity with less crater surface activity and fewer volcanic quakes and tremors this year. And with the last eruption 13 June last year 2019.

There is less magma supply to the surface, and with less pressure the crater has been deflating.

There is still potential for more eruptions but it is reckoned to be limited in danger around the summit and a few kilometres. There is still the hazard during rainy season along waterways and gullies.

The lowered status was declared Thursday 16 July at 3pm by the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

But those N95 masks you got just-in-case might be useful for other things right?

One future benefit of the lowered status may be that travel insurance might cover any volcanic issues and travel disruptions as Agung isn’t a ‘known’ event anymore. You need to check with your insurer.

I'm constantly amazed at the colour and life that presents itself here in Bali.

Just outside our Villas, Jepun, Ibu and Betutu, this spectacular procession began, to mark the ending of this years Sanur festival!

A Indonesian record breaking kite measuring 250 meters, took flight yesterday from southern Sanur.

An epic event, weighing in at over 700kg, and with 200 people needed to get it into the air!
