Danbury Receives Funding to relocate HARTransit Bus Station to Train Station
The City of Danbury has received about 1.6 Million Dollars in Federal funding to build a new HARTransit Bus Station at the Danbury Metro North Station on Patriot Drive in Downtown Danbury. The City says this idea was brought to light back in a 2018 TOD Study which recommended moving the HARTransit Terminal from its current Downtown location on Kennedy Avenue to the Danbury Metro North Station on Patriot Drive to create a Danbury Transit Center which would connect the buses and trains. The City says this funding will go into a traffic study and to purchase the vacant property next to the train station which is currently owned by Eversource. According to the Danbury Newstimes, Mayor Roberto Alves Chief of Staff Taylor O'Brien says the Danbury Transit Center Project is a good thing for the city as people taking the train from Norwalk and other communities along the New Haven Line would be able to easily get around the city with the buses being at the train station. The Current HARTransit bus station on Kennedy Avenue is a 11 to 12 minute walk from the Danbury Metro North Station. HARTransit CEO Richard Schreiner told the Danbury Newstimes this project has the potential to better serve the greater Danbury area. Currently in Fairfield County Stamford and Bridgeport are the only 2 Cities that have Transit Centers connecting buses and trains at the same terminal.
