A few weeks ago, for my 60th birthday, my family gave me an incredibly generous gift - a surfboard. It’s been years since I’ve been out in the surf, but here I am today, giving it another go. It’s not quite as easy as it used to be, but there’s something special about being back in the water.

Over the years, I’ve snapped so many photos here, but this spot remains one of the area’s best-kept secrets. Those in the know can take a dip in its deep, crystal-clear pools, swimming alongside fish while the waves crash over, refreshing it with every tide. Pure magic!

This beautiful but sneaky red-bellied black snake was hanging out at Mrs Macquaries Chair a few days ago, one of Sydney’s most iconic spots! While I was walking back from the chair, this guy was just soaking up the sun on the sandstone steps. I nearly trod on it before spotting that striking red belly.

While red-bellies are venomous, they’re not as deadly as some of their Aussie counterparts, like the eastern brown or taipan. Their bite can cause swelling, pain, and nausea, but fatalities are extremely rare, thanks to their relatively mild venom. Most of the time, they just want to be left alone, and bites only happen when they feel threatened.

These snakes are usually shy and prefer to keep to themselves, but they do play an important role in controlling the local frog and small mammal populations. So, while they may look a bit intimidating, they’re actually quite beneficial to our ecosystem.

Living on the edge of Sydney has its perks, but nothing prepared us for the wild visitor that showed up the other night… A long-nosed bandicoot! 🐾

While my wife was out feeding our resident peacock (yes, we have a peacock 🦚), my daughter spotted what she thought was a rat at our front door. But it turned out to be something far more special—an elusive bandicoot, right in our garden!

We watched in awe as it nibbled on the peacock's leftovers, reminding us how even in the suburbs, wildlife thrives in the most unexpected ways.
