Here’s an accessibility tip that you can use while traveling!
Often times, we come across buildings that were not made with disabled people in mind, but in some cases you can make it work.
In buildings that just have a bit of a threshold or just one stair, you can use a portable ramp to enter that building. I use one for that very situation as well as curbs that do not have a corner cut (close to my vehicle, it is not practical to carry the ramp everywhere you go).

Here’s an accessible travel tip!
With hotels switching to platform beds, a lot of individuals who travel with a hoyer lift have trouble being able to use their lift when they travel, well I have a solution for you!
Find a hotel room that has a pull-out sofa (not a trundle bed or futon), and then your hoyer lift can fit under that! Now, I understand those sofa-beds are so uncomfortable, so I also have a solution for that. Put a blow-up bed on top of it (you can optionally bring your own sheets, but hotels usually will have sheets for the sofa bed), and then you’ll be good to go!
Usually hotels with the word suite in it will have sofa beds (Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, etc.), but they are not limited to those hotels.

This historic Waldorf Astoria hotel features 2 restaurants, 3 bars, as well as stunning architecture. The rooms are beautifully appointed, and the service is awesome. In addition to all the amenities this hotel offers, it is also fully wheelchair accessible, which is awesome considering how historic this building is. This hotel also features an awesome rooftop pool!
The staff at this hotel are awesome, and you can tell they all love what they do. With full bell services and a concierge, many of the stresses involved with travel will be completely eliminated.

People with disabilties face an issue on a daily basis that is hardly spoken about. That issue is the issue of infantilization, which essentially is the treatment of an adult as if they have the perpetual cognition of a child and are not able to understand complex issues. This leads to incredibly weird and awkward treatment from other adults.
As an adult with a disability, I can tell you I encounter this multiple times a week, some weeks it’s every day in fact, and it is not only me who encounters this treatment. I have spoken with many people on this topic and the conclusion is is that this is one of the most problematic issues that people with disabilities face.
Unfortunately, there is not really a way to address this issue in society as whole, so what do you do? Well, I can tell you that you can’t allow this inevitable treatment to give you a fear of socialization. While this certainly leads to awkward situations, not everyone you encounter will give you this sort of frankly odd treatment. Don’t let that fear prevent you from living life to the fullest.
We encounter plenty of issues on a daily basis, and while this unfortunately is on that list, you can’t let that stop you from living life. There are 8 billion people in this world, and I can promise you many of these people will not give you that kind of treatment. I have had the privilege in my adult life to encounter many of these awesome people! So, keep your head up, and don’t let these negative stereotypes put you down!

These are my top 3 tour companies that I have tried so far in the USA, and all of them offer accessible options!
Number 3 is @goriocruises in San Antonio, TX. They offer river cruises along the San Antonio riverwalk and point out interesting points of interest along it! I took the narrated cruise recently it was awesome, and fully accessible!
Number 2 is @oldtowntrolley tours, which offer trolley tours in a variety of cities across the US. Those cities include: Boston, MA, Key West, FL, Nashville, TN, San Antonio, TX, San Diego, CA, Savannah, GA, St. Augustine, FL, and Washington, D.C! They also offer accessible trolleys so you can explore these cities with ease and learn some cool stuff along the way!
My favorite tour company in the USA that I have tried so far is @bulldogtours in Charleston, SC. They offer food tours, history tours, and even ghost tours. I took one of their ghost tours and it was by far my favorite tour I have taken so far. I definitely will be returning for another one! They were able to make the tour fully accessible as well!
