My favorite ~ ELEPHANT PORTRAIT AT SUNSET ~
Captured many years ago using a very basic Canon Camera, with the help of an amazing light

I still remember every seconds of what happened that day as I was watching this elephant eating a few meters from me, head facing the other side and me thinking and telling him that it would be so nice to see his face with the sunset slowly making its way and offering an incredible light…
It’s like he was listening: he turned around and looked at me, slowly coming towards me, in a very gentle way, stopped and listened to me fir a few seconds ( just the time to take the shot ) and then turned around again, back eating with me behind…

Meet the Ju/‘hoansi tribe in Botswana

The Ju/‘hoansi also known as the bushmen of the Kalahari, used to be a nomadic hunter-gatherer tribe who live in the deserts of Botswana.

They lived mainly by gathering plants, setting traps for small animals, and occasionally hunting larger game.

In the past they used to be largely foragers, exploiting over 100 species of plant foods and many species of animals based on the ressources available.

They lived that way for hundreds of thousands of years.
Sadly in Botswana, unlike Namibia, the gathering and hunting is not possible anymore the way they used to, and this traditional culture is slowly disappearing with our modern world giving the new rules…

I had the pleasure to spend some time with them, listening to their culture and how they used to live fully reliable on the gathering & hunting in the past.

They showed us their incredible knowledge about the plants and the medicinal use of them, their bushmen skills allowing them to survive in the bush, especially the desert part of Botswana, the way they entertain themselves singing and dancing, playing with scorpions …

Today they no longer have this nomadic gathering hunting life, they rely on cattle and tourism but they are extremely proud to share their culture and knowledge and what made them so unique in Southern Africa.

My Story

My name is Aïda (Douda is a nickname I got since I am a kid) and I would like to welcome you in my world here in Africa, where my passion for the wildlife, landscape and people, make me leave my confortable life in France to realize of my big dream: spending as much time as I can in the African bush and sharing this passion with others by offering private tailor made safaris in South Africa, and now Botswana.

I felt in love with South Africa more than 10 years ago, so it was obvious for me that my life has to be nowhere else than there! So I did all what I have to do, including my FGASA (Field Guide of Association of South Africa) training as a guide, and left behind me my previous life to start my new one: the best decision I have ever made!!

Why this love for Africa and the bush?

It is so hard to explain it with words but I am gonna try: when you are out in the bush among the nature and the wildlife, all your senses are awake, you can feel everything but with an intensity which is difficult to describe, the light the smell, the sound made by the bush and only by the bush, the taste of the dust and the fascinated vision of wild animals coming to you is just breathtaking... Here you can feel yourself like anywhere else, totally connected with the nature and with what is actually essential in life: you just feel alive but really alive.
