It’s shaping up to be another fabulous day here at the Festival. The sunshine we ordered has arrived, just the tonic we needed after Agnes left.

Our guests this week at The Open Book are Amanda and Allison pals from California and Colorado. They have hit the ground running, selling books like they were hotdogs and still managing to squeeze in some events. They enjoyed the Language of Food event and loved hosting local authors at our Spotlight on D&G writers. They are in awe of the town and the festival and think it is like something out of a story book, magical and charming. And who are we to argue? They are really looking forward to their first ever Ceilidh, they might need some willing and patient partners to show them the ropes.

There is still time to grab some tickets to an array of bookish delights on offer today.

"the love child of John Le Carre and Elena Ferrante” is how Louise Doughty describes her new novel. A literary offspring that is guaranteed to get the pulse rate up.

“The horror and hedonism of the siege of Paris are dazzlingly evoked in a gripping novel of self-discovery” is what the Guardian has to say about Stef Penney’s The Beasts of Paris. Catch her live today.

It's day 4 and with a hat tip to Umberto Eco “We love the smell of book ink in the morning".

Today in non-fiction, we have Monica Macias discussing her truth-is stranger-than-fiction North Korean upbringing in Black Girl from Pyongyang, Selina Mills take us on a journey through the history of sightlessness in A Life Unseen and Merryn Glover takes on the elemental Cairngorms in The Hidden Fires.

In Our Hideous Progeny, C. E. McGill takes us on a gothic trip with their creative spin on Frankenstein, Michael Blastland shows us how Thinking in Pictures can clarify our thinking and Edward Hocknell demystifies The Greek Alphabet.

End the day with the locally set film, Stella, followed by a Q&A with writer-director Jessica Fox

Good morning! Day 2 of Wigtown Book Festival 2023 and we're raring to go with a packed day of events.

This morning, Em Strang is setting the stage for a week of debut novelists. Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta brings the annual Mirrlees lecture, this year exploring the topic of Green Economics.

Heather Parry explores bodily autonomy with fiction early afternoon and Natasha Walters introduces her gripping memoir, Before the Light Fades.

There's a small handful of tickets left to see sports legend, Judy Murray, so book now before they sell out. Late afternoon brings Henry Dimbleby on why the food industry is killing us and Wigtown's favourite comedian Robin Ince is back with Books As Weapons of Empathy.

There is theatre and music tonight with The Swallow Theatre's A Room of One's Own and Rachel Walker and Aaron Jones celebrate amazing Scottish women in song.
