Ontario is yours to discover.
💙
Day trips are better when you discover new
things in areas you've visited often.
While in Bayfield, Ontario, we checked out
Pioneer Park, overlooking Lake Huron
The Park itself is a lovely place to visit, and
there are several benches facing the lake.
This spot would be perfect for viewing
sunrises, sunsets, fireworks or just relaxing
with a book as you enjoy the view of the
horizon.
🌅
You can take the stairs down the cliff to a
beautiful beach. While we were there, the
water was like aquamarine glass - so calm
and peaceful.

We are very sad to hear about the devastating fire that took over @cb_chips in Hartland, New Brunswick.
According to news reports, no one was injured, but the building was burned to the ground.
💔
We love ❤️ #coveredbridge Chips, and we visit the factory / store every single time we drive through new Brunswick.
💔
Our thoughts are with the Covered Bridge Chips family, and we hope they can rebuild - bigger and better.

To celebrate Dolly Parton's 78th birthday, Harry Ten Shilling tea house in Shakespeare, ON, hosted Dolly-themed afternoon tea.
As Dolly is our favourite celebri-tea, of course we had to join the party.
🫖
The menu offers finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, and a selection of dessert items including dolly birthday cupcakes, cinnamon bun, buttertarts and creme brule served with Their own delicious tea blends.
🦋
Guests came dressed in their best "Dolly-core" attire - t-shirts, pink gingham, western gear, etc.
🫖
The Dolly Tea has been extended past her birthday weekend, to include next weekend as well.
check out their website for information on this and other themed tea events.

As we prepare to say goodbye to another year, we would like to reflect on 2023.
This past year has been a fun one filled with many great adventures. We have been privileged to visit some unique places and experience some pretty cool things.
📍
We checked off a number of bucket list destinations, discovered more quirky museums to enjoy, found many more roadside attractions, knocked off three more states in our #roadtofifty, and experienced the beauty of the northern lights. All in all, …not a bad year.
🌎
We are very grateful to all of you who have continued to follow along on our journeys - as well as like, comment on & share our posts.
🧡
We appreciate all of our followers, and we hope we have inspired you to find some great travel adventures of your own.
We look forward to 2024 and the adventures that await us.
Thank you for your support.
Happy New Year!

In front of the library in the town of Holland, Michigan, is a collection of statues depicting characters from the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
🌪
the bronze statues depict the characters as they appear in the original sl book, based on the artistry of WW Denslow, the original illustrator.
Characters featured are Dorothy & Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion, the Wicked Witch, a Munchkin, a fighting tree, and a Flying Monkey (perched on the tree).
🌪
L. Frank Baum used to vacation near Holland, Michigan, and apparently, parts of the Oz tale were written while staying at the family cottage.
🌷
This was our 2nd Oz-themed destination on this roadtrip - the other being a collection of movie-themed statues in Wisconsin.

On Dec 10th, 1967, the plane transporting Soul singer Otis Redding and band to a show in Madison, Wisconsin went down into Lake Monona. The crash killed Otis, and 5 other people. This was the only show Otis ever missed.
🎙️
There is a memorial plaque on the lakeside deck of the Madison convention center, on the terrace with a seating area facing Lake Monina.

We finally got to see the Easter island heads.
Well, technically the Wisconsin version.
🗿
The giant 14 foot tall Moai is located in West Berlin., Wisconsin, and is a lot less mysterious than the original version. Inspired by the famous easter island Moai, this one was created by a local artist. In 1980.
It is located near the intersection of W Cleveland Ave near A Moorland rd. And easy to spot.

'And then we finish it off with our best Henry Winkler'...
Aaaayyyyyy!
👍
The Bronz Fonz Tv land statue is located along the Milwaukee Riverwalk. The statue depicts Henry Winkler's iconic television character "The Fonz" from the 1970's television show "Happy Days". The sitcom centred around a family in the 1950s and was set in Milwaukee.
.
Long before shows like Barry & movies like Scream, Henry Winkler & the Fonz were massive pop culture icons.

Welcome to Olean, New York.
📍
What brought us to the city of Olean?
Why, the squirrel statues, of course.
🌰
The city of Olean is home to numerous squirrel statues located throughout the city.
We didn't have a lot of time to capture all of them, but I guess that just means we need to come back so we can collect em all.

We always have a Farm-Tastic time when we visit @snydersfarm.
🎃
Through the years they have been growing and evolving to offer their guests a unique farm experience. And this year, the attractions are bigger and better than ever.
💀
They have included more attractions, and activities for the whole family to enjoy. Their fall farm adventures include pumpkin picking, a petting zoo, playland for the kids, a hay ride through the fields, a corn maze, go carts, and much more.
There is a variety of food offerings including food trucks, and snacks like candy, pretzles, popcorn, and beverages.
🍁
The gift barn offers a huge variety of items that will be sure to liven up your home decor, and many seasonal items to help you decorate for the holidays.
🥧
I can't say enough good things about their bakery. It's one of our favourites in the area. Every fall we make sure to grab some of their pumpkin / autumn flavoured desserts (the cinnamon buns are heavenly). We love their butter tarts, their pies, whoopie pies, and their brownies are the only brownies I will eat.
🥧
Be sure to visit @snydersfarm this autumn and don't forget @fearfarm - it's amazing. Be sure to plan a Christmas visit, too.

Elfreth's Alley is a historic street in the 'old city' neighbourhood of Philadelphia.
The buildings are a collection of early American structures that date back over 300 years with the first being built in 1703.
It is a National Historic Landmark and is the oldest continuously inhabited residential street in America.

It's PYO blueberry season
🫐
We don't typically do PYO, but in the venn diagram of fruit picking blueberries hit that sweet spot.
They are easy to pick, they are worth the effort, they are a versatile fruit, it's one fruit we both agree on, and
they freeze very well. In fact, we still have a few bags in the freezer from last year).
🫐
@tntberries is a lovely family farm in Shakespeare, ON and we look forward to our annual visits. The staff are amazing.
🫐
This year, we said we didn't need to get as much as in year's past, so of course we picked *MORE*
This year's haul.....
13 lbs.
Last year was about 8lbs
My Daddy would be so proud. 🤭

Ontario's sweetest festival is taking place this weekend.
.
If you are planning on attending Ontario's Best Butter Tart Festival in Town of Midland, here are a few tips to help you make the most of your day.
.
▪️Plan your trip: Check the #buttertartFestival website for maps, events, information, parking, and updates.
.
▪️Arrive Early: the festival is open from 9AM to 5 PM, with events and judging starting early. Also – many bakers sell out quickly.... avoid disappointment.
.
▪️ Dress for the weather: This is an outdoor festival – check the weather report for the day, and dress accordingly. It can get quite hot.
▪️Wear comfortable shoes: You will be doing a fair bit of walking up and down the main streets of the festival, through the town of Midland, and the waterfront.
▪️Stay Hydrated: Bring your own refillable water bottle to stay hydrated – there are water refilling stations located throughout the festival route as well.
.
▪️Bring Sun Protection: Have sunscreen, sunglasses, & a hat to protect yourself from the Sun.
▪️Cash is King: While most vendors offer card payment options, some may only take cash. Be prepared by having cash on hand. There are several ATMs / Banks in town where you can get cash as needed.
▪️Bring reusable tote bags: you will likely be buying a lot of treats, and have several reusable tote bags on hand to carry your sweet haul.
▪️Wet Wipes – be prepared for the inevitable gooey & sticky mess that may occur from eating butter tarts on the go.
.
And…..
▪️Have Fun
These suggestions will help you thoroughly enjoy Ontario’s Sweetest Festival.
