Walk, bike, or take public transport.

The world’s roadways are clogged with vehicles, most of them burning diesel or gasoline.

Walking or riding a bike instead of driving will reduce greenhouse gas emissions -- and help your health and fitness.

For longer distances, consider taking a train or bus. And carpool whenever possible. Living car-free can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 2 tons of CO2e per year compared to a lifestyle using a car.

is one of those undiscovered countries in West Africa – a hidden gem. It’s a country surrounded by picture-perfect palm-lined beaches, offering incredible attractions for visitors. The food in Ivory Coast is incredible. A bite of kedjenou and poulet braise will have you begging for more!

Explore the oldest park in Africa, the Comoë National Park, where you can see the lions, waterbucks, hippos and other animals frolicking in their natural habitat. It’s an ideal destination for a family vacation.

Air and Ténéré Natural Reserves, Niger Republic: This is Africa's largest protected area, located in the Saharan desert of Ténéré.

It consists of the volcanic rock mass of Aïr and a small isolated Sahelian pocket with unique flora and fauna.

It was considered for delisting in 1999 owing to increased military conflicts and the hostage-taking of six reserve staff, but it still stands as a World Heritage Site.

What continues to underpin all tourism development is the question of transportation - required for all economic development, and also health care as the pandemic has highlighted. Unfortunately, mobility for whatever reason has negative impacts on our climate. Approx. 1/5th of CO2 emissions arise from transportation. - Collaboration across all sectors of the economy - trade - including tourism, agriculture, architecture etc. are required to foster a regenerative tourism sector as part of regenerative economy/capitalism. Yes, three pillars - economy/socio-cultural/environmental...but now climate change highlights our dependence on our natural environment. Sustainability towards the notion of regeneration is now emerging as the mindset required for now and times ahead.
Dr. Birgit Trauer.
