The iconic Looking Glass Rock is hard to miss while driving the southern section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This big ball of granite rock is known as a pluton and it gets the name “Looking Glass” from its appearance when rainwater freezes on its surface and reflects the sun. Not to be confused with Looking Glass Falls, which is near the base of the rock and has its own unique geological features. Both amazing locations are just a short drive away from .

Did you know that the French Broad River is the third oldest river in the world, next to the Nile and the ironically named New River? It is a north flowing river that eventually feeds into the Mississippi River and then the Gulf of Mexico! There are parts of the river to relax and float but there are also parts meant for those looking for a challenge. Attention L A K E L O V E R S ! We have something for you! There are several lakes in Western North Carolina that are worth a visit for a cool off, here are three that we love:
1. Lake Lure, NC: just beyond Asheville is the sweet Lake Lure that features a beach, mini water park, and more. Want to know something special about Lake Lure? The move Dirty Dancing was filmed there.
2. Fawn Lake, NC: Fawn Lake is in Dupont State Forest off Reasonover Road in Cedar Mountain, NC. A short hike in and you have arrived at one of the most beautiful lakes in the area.
3.Lake Santeelah, NC: located in the far western part of North Carolina is surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest on 80% of its 76-mile shoreline. There is no shortage of fishing, swimming, or camping here!

From the first time we laid eyes on our property, to the final renovations being completed, establishing Foggy Bottom Cabins has been our greatest joy. Our journey has not been short of obstacles. Fully renovating every part of our three cabins was challenge enough. To our surprise, it was a challenge that was quickly met by an even greater hurdle: opening a business during a global pandemic. However, we couldn't be more thankful for the hardships we have faced because they have led us to where we are as a business today. We are proud to offer our guests the highest quality of safety, service, and care to ensure that their expectations are exceeded when they stay with us. We are so thankful for all the guests who have supported our business thus far, and look forward to serving the guests to come. . . .
