Info on great spots to view Colorful Fall Trees...

Due to the popularity of Lockett Meadow as a destination for viewing fall colors and aspen stands, vehicle access to the meadow will be managed over the first few weekends of October to ensure public safety. Personnel will not allow uphill traffic once the maximum capacity of approximately 100 vehicles has been reached in Lockett Meadow.

Type 1 Team to transfer command to Coconino National Forest

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., July 29, 2019 – This will be the final evening update for the Museum Fire, unless there is a significant change in fire activity. Updates will continue to be provided once per day.

The Southwest Area Type 1 Incident Management Team 2, led by Incident Commander Rich Nieto, plans to transfer command of the Museum Fire back to the Coconino National Forest tomorrow, July 30, 2019, at 6 PM. A local Type 3 organization led by Incident Commander Preston Mercer will continue to fight the fire.

Personnel from the Type 3 organization are on-site shadowing the Type 1 team, and together are producing a plan for a smooth transition. Fire activity has been minimal with no perimeter growth the past two days. Firefighters will continue to closely monitor the fire on the ground and will utilize aerial resources as needed.

Today, firefighters on the ground worked in conjunction with helicopters to cool hotspots on the north and east flanks. Heavy fuels will continue to burn and smolder within areas the fire perimeter until significant rains set in.

A robust initial attack crew is staying vigilant as monsoon weather is anticipated to bring thunderstorms to the area tonight and tomorrow, and stand ready to suppress any new starts.

The Coconino National Forest has released a new Forest Order reducing the Museum Fire Public Safety closure area. Detailed information and a map are available on Inciweb at inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/map/6450/0/93533.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office has downgraded Mount Elden Estates from “Set” (pre-evacuation) to “Ready.” This was the last neighborhood in “Set” due to the Museum Fire. The Coconino County Emergency Call Center continues to be open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM at 928-213-2990 to support communication related to Museum Fire response and flooding risk.

A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains in place. Wildfires are a No DRONE ZONE. For more information, visit knowbeforeyoufly.org.

We love our firefighters and those who are doing such a wonderful job keeping us safe and informed regarding the Museum Fire. We were the only community that was evacuated on Monday, July 22, 2019. The evacuation was lifted yesterday, July 24, 2019, and homeowners were allowed to go back. Please continue to pray for the safety of our firefighters, and for them to be able to fully contain this fire.

This is scary!! Museum fire close to our retreat. No evacuations yet. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
