Beginning early next year, U.S. citizens traveling to the United Kingdom will need more than just a passport.

According to the U.S. Department of State's travel website: "U.S. citizens traveling to or transiting through the United Kingdom for tourism, family visits, business meetings, conferences, or short-term study lasting six months or less will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before traveling."

The U.K. government provides a website where travelers can verify their eligibility and apply for an ETA.
