Nestled on the rugged coastline of Pacific Grove, the Point Pinos Lighthouse stands as a timeless sentinel, guiding sailors through the shifting fog and dark waters of Monterey Bay. 🏖️ Built in 1855, it is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast, and it still shines its beacon across the vast ocean, a steady reminder of the strength and resilience of maritime history.

Walking up to the lighthouse, you’re greeted by its whitewashed exterior, which contrasts beautifully with the wild, windswept landscape surrounding it. The coastline here feels both serene and powerful—waves crashing against jagged rocks, the salty air filling your lungs, and the ever-present call of seabirds overhead. It’s easy to imagine the lives of the sailors who once relied on this beacon to guide them safely home.

Whether you’re here for the history, the views, or just to take a peaceful stroll through the nearby cypress forest, Point Pinos offers a sense of connection to the past and a grounding in the beauty of nature. The lighthouse still operates today, a living piece of history, and the small museum inside offers a glimpse into the lives of those who kept the light burning through foggy nights and stormy seas.

It’s one of those special places where you can take a step back in time while marveling at the untouched beauty of the California coastline. If you’re ever in the area, don’t miss the chance to visit this iconic spot—it’s more than just a landmark; it’s a piece of history that continues to shine.

Throw back to where our interest for travel sparked! This was back in our believe 2014. We were visiting family in Fillmore, Utah. Looking for something fun to do and stumped upon a magazine that had this place in there!! We decided we would set out to explore. Please note not to take a Honda Civic on these roads although we made it just fine it was an interesting drive out there 🤣. It is about an hour drive off the road on a dirt road. Most people go out there on quads or trucks.

The place was really cool to check out and actually there was someone who was stilling in the place at the time. They had left a note to please not touch there things but to come in a look around 🤣.

What are the random places you have explored?

Here is the story:

Hermit’s Cabin or Hermit’s Cave was built in 1929 by Bob Stinson. Bob returned home from World War I to find that his girlfriend had married someone else. He was traveling through Marjum pass near Delta Utah when his vehicle broke down. He decided to stay where he was and build a stone cabin enclosing a nearby small cave. He ended up becoming employed by the government to maintain the dirt road in the area and lived there until he was 70 years old.

“One of greatest thieves this world has is procrastination, and he is still at large. Are we aiding and abetting the criminal?”

— Sterling W. Sill

We have always appreciated the time that we have with our kids. One of our greatest fears is that we will look back at their childhood and have little memories that we share.

The more time we spend as a family, the more we realize that our time together doesn’t need to be some grand adventure. They find joy in the little simple thing.

The lesson is:

Don’t procrastinate spending time with your family because your waiting for some extravagant thing.
