Map Adventures Take a hike today!

24/01/2025

Folks, our Trails are in extremely good shape right now, and we would like to keep them that way! Please follow this guidance when biking/hiking:

When riding or hiking on the singletrack, please be aware of the tracks/tread you're leaving behind. Are you sinking into the snow more than 1 inch? If you are riding, try lowering your tire pressure. If that doesn’t do the trick, please do not continue to ride. If you are walking/hiking, please add snowshoes to help us preserve the groomed trail surface. The winter singletrack trails are multi-use trails and our all-volunteer grooming crew works incredibly hard throughout the winter season to keep these trails in good shape. 🙏 Thanks in advance!

Great advice. Follow it and stay safe out there!

BE ADVISED: Frigid conditions are expected in the Park throughout the week ahead (Monday, 1/20 - Thursday, 1/23), with below zero temperatures likely to be intensified by extreme wind chill. Visitors should be alert for the potential for hypothermia and other cold related injuries amongst themselves and their parties.

Northern elephant seal Liddie was spotted with the rim of a plastic bucket lid tightly around her neck 😰 To make matters worse, she was on a remote beach only accessible by rappelling down a cliff with no cell phone service.

But, thanks to caring people like you, marine mammal researchers were stocked with necessary supplies to disentangle her 🚑 Would they be able to reach Liddie in time to free her from ocean trash?

Find out how a hand-written note 💌 kept this rescue mission - and young seal - alive when you read the full story at https://bit.ly/3VwJaLO.

Got to love science!

Yesterday at 3:01 PM, a 142-mph wind gust was recorded at our mountaintop station! This is the strongest gust we've seen since March 2024 when winds on the Rockpile hit 150 mph. These fierce winds were caused by a major pressure difference between low pressure that brought snow on Wednesday and stalled over the Canadian Maritimes, and a sprawling area of Arctic high pressure that has moved in across the central US. Check out our Hayes Chart, pictured here, which used air pressure differences in our Pitot Static anemometer to "draw" the day's wind speeds.

Tune in to our page tonight at 5p.m. for a live Higher Summits Forecast for the upcoming weekend.
