The village is located at 1,920 metres (6,300 ft) above sea level and is the heart of the resort. The main attractions of this resort are alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, hiking, biking, rock climbing, paragliding and fishing. The village is accessible by car during the summer, but with some time restrictions. It can also be reached by use of a gondola lift.
Ski Resort
From early December until early April, the ski resort is open to the public. The four chairlifts, four T-bar lifts and two gondola lifts service the 32 acres of lift-accessible terrain. The base station, Stöckalp, is located at 1080 meters above sea level. The three peaks, Erzegg, Balmeregg and Bonistock are at 2150, 2255 and 2160 meters, respectively.

The "Ponte dei Salti" stone bridge soars over the turquoise Verzasca with two arches. 400 years after its completion, is draws visitors in droves on a daily basis. Some photograph the picture-perfect subject from all sides, others use the bridge as a springboard for diving into the refreshing water.

Lavertezzo is first mentioned in 1327 as Laverteze. In the Middle Ages, Lavertezzo was a Squadra of the Vicinanza of Verzasca. For centuries, the people lived in the summer months in the Verzasca valley and migrated in the winter, with their cattle, to the lower valleys. After the dissolution of Terricciole in 1920, a shared territory between Locarno, Minusio and Mergoscia, the settlement of Riazzino was allocated to Lavertezzo.

The parish church of Madonna degli Angeli was built in the 18th century. Lavertezzo became an independent parish in the 16th century, when it separated from Vogorno. It was granted a provost in 1806.

The double arch stone bridge was built in the 17th century and is one of the most distinctive sights in the village. The economy in the valley consisted mainly of farming and grazing. There was added income, from emigrants who went to Italy, especially Palermo. In 1873, they began to systematically produce granite from quarries in Lavertezzo. In the last decades of the 20th century Riazzino developed into a shopping and recreation center. By 2000, the agricultural sector still provided a good one-tenth of the jobs in Lavertezzo.

Falls and Hotel Giessbach

The Giessbach brook has its source in the high valleys and basins of the Faulhorn-Sägis Valley and feeds the world famous Giessbach Falls, which tumble into Lake Brienz near the landing stage. Since the 19th century, there has been a footpath that leads to and under the waterfall. Since that time the 14 steps of the Giessbach Falls have been named after Bernese heroes.

Grand Hotel Giessbach was built between 1873 and 1874 and is located in a 22-hectare park and garden complex. The Giessbachbahn was established in 1879 and is the oldest funicular in Europe that is only used by tourists. The train connects the landing stage of "Giessbach See" (Lake Brienz) with the hotel, which is situated approximately 100 meters above the lake.

CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN
The most impressive chocolate fountain in the world
As weightless as the chocolate fountain may seem, a lot of construction, planning and material has gone into it. It weighs a total of three tons, including 1,500 liters of fine chocolate. This flows through the fountain at a speed of one kilo per second. To make this possible, pipes with a total length of 94 meters were laid inside the chocolate fountain, which is exactly 9.3 meters high.
