Howdy partners, and 🌈 Happy Pride Month! I’ve got a handful of Pride flags that I would love to deliver to local businesses that will display them. I’m prioritizing businesses on San Antonio and Highland. It’s important we show that Marfa is a safe place to be Q***r. Especially for the youngins. Holler @ me if you want one.

This year there aren’t any official events scheduled for June, but word on the street is that there might be some ways to celebrate throughout the month. Hopefully we’ll do something a little bigger in September. After all, every month is Pride month.

Thank you Open Road Floral for donating flowers for the Marfa ISD prom! This year’s theme was 🌹Masquerade🪭
The prom committee requested red and white flowers, which parent volunteers helped arrange. It takes a village, people!

Happy 10 Years a Texan, Phil Boyd!

Back in 2013 Phil was at a crossroads, trying to figure out what to do next. New York? LA? He could have gone anywhere and done amazing things, but I got drunk and brave enough to tell him to move here, you idiot. A couple months later he pulled up in a U-Haul and moved all his DVDs into my house in Austin. I’m so glad he did!

Whew! Thanks for taking a leap on me, Peej. Texas is better with you in it.

Art Blocks is gearing up for their 3rd annual Marfa Weekend and you’re all invited!

Besides activations of new artworks, I’m excited to see the night sky tour hosted by Stephen Hummel of the Big Bend Dark Sky Reserve on Friday night and visit Marfa artist’s studios on Saturday.

From all corners of the globe, people have welcomed Little Amal with open arms and hearts – I’m excited to join them in welcoming her to Marfa, Texas on October 24 for an one-of-a-kind event called, The Stars Above Me.

Journeying from Boston to San Diego, will meet 1,000+ artists at 100+ events in 35 towns and cities.

I am proud to partner with the Marfa Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve, Marfa Education Foundation, and the Bi-national Cultural Council to spread ’s message of hope in Marfa, Texas!

I just wrapped my third and final Marfa Lights Festival, and I’m calling it a big damn success. I will be stepping down as President of the Marfa Chamber of Commerce on November 1, after I wrap up some administrative work and host the Little Amal event on October 24.

I have learned a lot during my time with the Chamber, about myself and this community. I’ve been able to grow my professional skills and community relationships, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. I am especially grateful to those who did the work with me and share my passion for building a supportive community.

The Chamber of Commerce is seeking new board members to take the organization into whatever the next stage may be. It is hard and rewarding work. If you are interested or have questions, please reach out to me.

In honor of Pride Month, the Mexican Consulate presents Finlandia at Crowley Theatre June 28 at 7 pm. Free to attend.

In a small town outside of Oaxaca lives a group of Muxes, third gender and non-binary people, who make a living sewing and looking after their elders. Parallel to this, fashion designers in Spain plot a plan to appropriate the traditional dresses that the Muxes create. The film follows the highs and the lows of the Muxes, indulging in their intoxicating 'velas' and grieving their lost loves, all in the beautiful setting of rural Mexico. As tragedy strikes, the importance of kinship and chosen family is reverberated across the town.

I am pleased to be consulting for Art Blocks in their Marfa gallery space with the goals of improving visitor experience, creating mission-driven programming, and integrating their gallery into the Marfa community in meaningful ways.

In all of the work I do, I keep the wants and needs of Marfa residents in the front of my mind as I learn from my clients the kind of experiences they want to provide, the resources they have to share, and the values that guide them. In my brief time with Art Blocks, I see so many ways their presence in Marfa can benefit our community through educational opportunities, community building, philanthropy, and generosity of space and resources. I'm looking forward to working with their team to roll out great things in the months ahead… stay tuned.

Here’s the whole shebang! Saturday Day Fest is FAMILY FRIENDLY! Field day activities organized by Coach Ojeda start at 11 am so bring your tennies and get in a competitive spirit! We’ve got a moon bounce and an inflatable slide (even for adults), gelato, good food, local vendors, and great live music.

Doom Well is psych-folk band from El Paso with q***r members. I think y’all are gonna dig it.

Here’s some *big* news… Little Amal, the internationally celebrated 12-foot-tall puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl is making a stop in Marfa on October 24!

Amal visited New York City last fall, and has been welcomed by more than 250 uniquely created artistic events across the globe since she set out on her initial 5,000-mile trek across Europe in 2021, will embark on an epic 6,000-mile journey across the United States this September.

Over nine weeks this fall, Amal will join 1,500-plus artists at more than 100 artistic events across 35 towns and cities. The nationwide journey will begin in Boston, MA on September 7 and culminate on November 5 in San Diego, CA. The journey will take her through the nation’s capital, the Midwest, the South, along the Southern border, north to Los Angeles, and end in San Diego. Additional details will be available over the summer, and updated frequently, at WalkWithAmal.org.

Biiig thanks to the GoodTaste TV team for being such good visitors, the local businesses and restaurants that showed them how good we have it in Marfa, and especially the good folks in this town who made them feel welcomed. As I wrap up my time as Director of Tourism for the City of Marfa I'm so happy to see the rebrand I worked on with finally be introduced into the world. During my time with the City, I focused on how I thought our residents would want their town represented to the world.

People come to Marfa with a lot of preconceived notions, but we seldom match what folks are used to. That's why we started asking people to leave their expectations behind and Get to Know MARFA.

Cali and Christian at Theory Praxis listened, asked great questions, and totally got what we were going for. They made us a logo and branding that speaks to Marfa's best qualities: Art, Culture, History, Mystery, Land, and Sky. I couldn't be more proud to leave this behind as a warm welcome to our visitors.

It's been an honor to represent Marfa to the world, and I look forward to continuing to advocate in her best interest and introduce visitors to the town I have grown to know and love.
