Whether you’re visiting Lubbock, Texas, or you’re one of the locals, its always great to embrace some of the history in your area. An easy 1-2 punch to accomplish just that is right here on the North side of Lubbock at the edge of the Texas Tech University Campus.
The National Ranching Heritage Center is a regional ranching history museum located at 3121 4th St, Lubbock, TX 79409. The Heritage Center occupies 27-acres on Texas Tech University’s campus. You may have seen it right off of Marsha Sharp Freeway, or when traveling down 4th St to head toward University.
The Museum was created to preserve the ranching history in West Texas and Lubbock. When at the museum, you can see some really cool authentic late 18 century to mid-20th century ranching buildings where people actually lived and ranched. Don’t miss out on the interactive exhibits here as well!
If you visit this historical site, know that all tours are self-guided and take around 60 to 90 minutes. Maps and guides are also available to everyone.
Also, make sure and take some time to check out the Museum of Texas Tech University right next door. Entrance to both museums are free, but don’t hesitate to make a donation for the upkeep and maintenance of the facilities and exhibits.
If you work up an appetite soaking in all of the history and culture, check out Blue Sky Restaurant right across the street from the museums at 4216 4th St., Lubbock, TX 79415. Awesome local Lubbock atmosphere, and excellent food! If your open to a little extra heat, try their Green Chili Cheeseburger.
