When I see those “instagram vs reality posts” it kind of annoys me ! For example : They show Santorini looking gorgeous and empty, then “reality” shows the crowds, but they go during the busiest time of day to the busiest places .
if you get off a cruise ship with 1st - thousands of people 2nd: in the busiest time of day 3rd : tourist places only, of course there will be crowds. You’re asking for it.

1: When you want to go to busy tourist places consider going in the early morning, because most people like to sleep in, it’s the same as sunset, just sunrise instead, but with no one in the streets. Then when crowds start showing up go back to your hotel and take a nap.
2; research areas that are kind of hidden and tourists don’t go to, or places the people from the cruise ships don’t go to. Odds are you can walk around all day and hardly anyone will be there .
As you see in the first few photos. The streets of Santorini are empty because they were taken at breakfast time. The last photo was in the hot sun midday in a quiet community with almost no one there .

There will be crowds , but research before you go! Like for instance , jubilee next year in Italy will mean more people. However most of the people traveling for jubilee will be going to Rome. Not to lakes and mountains and wineries. So Rome will be very crowded, but we are only there one day then we head to other parts.

I wrote about our “lots” in life in my last post. Today as we sit here safe in our oasis with the waters roaring all around us. The song “it is well with my soul” comes to mind. It was written by a man named Spafford after the Chicago fire ruined him financially, then later 4
Of his daughters died in a sinking ship (they had gone ahead of him to England and he followed later). He wrote this song as he was on the ocean headed towards England himself .
He says “no matter my lot thou has taught me to say it is well with my soul” . As the waves were crashing around him literally and spiritually , he wrote a song that inspired so many to seek comfort and peace in the love of Jesus. Here on this island We feel completely safe knowing just a few steps away we’d most likely get injured or killed .
In the same way Jesus is our fortress and our safe place no matter how much danger is all around us ❤️

Henry said yesterday as we drove past some beautiful views “this can’t be real life” . And as we drove through the norongoro crater and we saw soooo many species of animals walking around together in peace he said “it’s like the garden of eden”. In 2 hours my grandma will be laid to rest and the quote ““This I can declare: things that are in heaven are more real than things that are in the world.” kept coming back to me all day. As the sun shone through tonight’s sunset I had to remind myself that the beauty im seeing is just a very tiny glimpse of what my grandma is seeing.
Here the lion still kills its prey. Our knees still hurt from hiking with the hadzabe tribe, the mosquitos still bite. I can’t wait to see heaven and see what I truly long to see !

This wonderful time spent at Khaban Bacalar Hotel was a one of a kind experience . We’ve all heard of Cancun however very few people talk about going to Bacalar lagoon. Crystal clear , non salty, water. The food at this hotel was REMARKABLE! plus how peaceful it was is something ill never forget .
