Nakagin Capsule Tower to be Demolished Mid-April
Last year, Kisho Kurokawa Architects and Urban Design Office Chiyoda-ku announced that they aim to dismantle the iconic architecture and reuse its capsules as accommodation units and museum installations. The regeneration plan follows the initial concept of "Metabolism", re-configurating the elements instead of complete demolition, all sourced through crowdfunding campaigns, which has already begun on the Motion Gallery site since July 2nd to fund the repairs of the capsules being donated to museums.
Following months of uncertainties and preservation attempts, Kisho Kurokawa's iconic Nakagin Capsule Tower will be demolished on April 12th of this year. Tatsuyuki Maeda, one of the current owners of the tower, explained that a team will try to preserve some of the capsules, and regenerate them as accommodation units and museum installations across the world.

It is difficult to imagine how the serene curves of the Al Shaheed Monument, reflected in a glimmering lake in the ancient city of Baghdad, could have been built in a time of conflict and genocide. Commissioned by Saddam Hussein’s regime as a memorial for the fallen soldiers in the Iraq-Iran War of the 1980s, this graceful structure exudes a quiet beauty that belies the turmoil of its birth.

, the Al Shaheed Monument contains no obvious martial imagery. Designed by Iraqi architect Saman Kamal and sculptor Ismail Fatah al Turk, the monument takes the form of a towering arabesque pointed dome, 40 meters (132 feet) tall and covered in turquoise tile. The dome is split in half down the center, with the two halves hollowed out and offset from each other; one half shelters a circular cascade and pool, while the other protects an eternal flame dedicated to the martyrs of the war.

Walter Gropius & The Architects Collaborative: The University of Baghdad, Baghdad Iraq Modern Ideals and Regionalism in a Tumultuous World

the University of Baghdad, while an ambitious plan for a modern Iraq, was not completed as Gropius and TAC intended, but continued to grow into a University. The tumultuous political climate and regime changes made building a unified architectural vision for the a university a challenge. While the faculty club building and the gateway to the university from the plan exist today and have been incorporated into the campus. It is the adjacency of buildings that represent the ideals of Gropius’ plan for a modern university for iraq, with a campus centered around the library, and the assembly of students in the auditorium, theater, and plaza that appear to define ideas for developing Iraqi citizens an in so they might a acheive a better place in the world.

Three Houses and a Carob Tree

The commission consisted of two "duplex" type homes on a 400 m2 lot in a neighborhood in the suburbs of Cordoba. This decision implied an idea of researching ways of making architecture for rent, collaborating to create a more compact city.

Córdoba suffers the consequences of the horizontal expansion of the urban sprawl, towards the small mountains (northwest of the city), the “oil stain” that worries so much when thinking about the development of a more sustainable city.

This is how we propose to work with 3 units, two of them in triplex and one in two levels that incorporates the first inhabitant of the place, a carob tree of approximately 15 years of age, which without a doubt had to become the protagonist of the house that would welcome.

When Paris Eliminates Cars, Will Other Cities Follow Suit?

Paris has been making headlines for years with its aggressive steps to anti-car, pro-pedestrian urban improvements. Faced with increasing issues around air pollution and an attempt to reclaim streets for alternate modes of transit, as outlined in their proposed plan for a 15-minute city, the French capital is seen as a leader in future-forward urbanist strategies.

Recently, their department of transportation set a deadline for their lofty goals of eliminating traffic from its roads. In just two years from now, in time for the French capital to host the Olympics, Paris plans to ban non-essential traffic from its city center, effectively eliminating around 50% of vehicular mobility. What does this plan look like? And how might other cities use this strategy to eliminate their own urban issues?

Balbek Bureau proposes "temporary but dignified" refugee villages for Ukraine's displaced
Balbek Bureau has analysed refugee settlements around the world to develop a blueprint for a modular village that could provide emergency shelter for people made homeless during the war in Ukraine.
The housing scheme, dubbed Re:Ukraine, is based on a standardised timber-framed box that can be fitted with different interiors to form living quarters and communal kitchens, bathrooms and public spaces.
These units could be stacked and combined into larger configurations, interspersed with squares and green spaces, to create everything from a 100-person settlement up to the equivalent of a small town housing 8,200 people.

agritecture is the century’s evolving art and culture of unanimously blending architecture and agriculture. It is defined by an absolute integration and a fresh lens to view agriculture and urban farming from an architectural perspective. Agritecture is a relatively new term but its roots travel all along with green-conscious cities and communities. It can be interlaced within the building through vertical farming that amplifies the green density and plant growth.
Agritecture can also be found on the outside, in living walls, rooftop gardens, green staggered terraces, and more. Breath is the driving force of life. And this grey-green decoupage of agriculture melting into architecture will go a long way in turning our structures into breathing spaces.

Glass facades are "the main culprit" for billions of annual bird deaths
This week on Dezeen, experts called for legislation to prevent huge numbers of birds dying from striking glass buildings every year.
According to experts, collisions with buildings cause billions of bird deaths a year and architects should mend their designs to help reduce this number.
"We need broad-scale legislation requiring buildings to be bird-friendly," said Kaitlyn Parkins, an ecologist who is campaigning to reduce bird deaths in New York City.
In response, we rounded up eight ways to make buildings more bird-friendly.

Sydney Opera House :10 Things you did not know
1. In 1956 the Government announced a design competition with £5,000 as the prize money to design this iconic structure
2. The construction of this marvellous structure started in 1959, with 10,000 workers on board.
3. This 185 m long and 120 m wide building spread on 1.8-hectare land at harbour contains 2,194 precast sections to complete its roof.
4. Utilizing the site conditions to the fullest, cold water from harbour runs in a 35 km long pipe acting as thermal fluid for the building’s cooling system.
5. Queen Elizabeth II officially inaugurated it on 20th October 1973. But in 1960 Sydney Opera House had seen its first performance by Paul Robeson
6. ..There are around 1000 rooms in this building.
7. This building is a classic example of Expressionist Modernism.
8. orn Utzon wanted to use plywood as the primary material for the interiors of the Opera House
9. In 2007, UNESCO proclaimed Sydney Opera House as the World Heritage Site,
