Hey everyone, Anthony here! I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend, wherever you might be!

I just submitted another accessibility review on Zamonos about Skyglass Canela and wanted to share it with you: https://www.zamonos.com/place/gcp:ChIJq7mcjHfSHpUR6gjxMGvQ2w0

You can check out my thoughts on the place and see all the accessibility features. It’s a bit of a niche spot way down in the far south of Brazil, but I love sharing these reviews. Who knows, maybe one day some of you will find yourselves venturing this far south!

As always, I’d love to encourage you all to share your own accessibility reviews from wherever you are around the world. With 50,000 of us in this group, we have the power to create a truly impactful database that can help so many people. Zamonos.com is great, and with over 175 accessibility features to choose from, you're bound to find something worth sharing for others and yourself.

We’re excited to feature a guest blog post from one of our group members, Laura Cook! 🦁🐘

Laura recently went on an incredible accessible safari adventure in Tanzania, where she experienced breathtaking nature and up-close encounters with amazing wildlife. In her post, Laura shares her story, from the wonders of the Serengeti to practical tips for fellow travelers with disabilities.

Read all about Laura’s safari adventure here: https://theworldisaccessible.com/tanzania-safari-accessibility/

She stands before a small white airplane with the branding "Coastal" on its side. The aircraft is a Cessna model and is parked on a rural airstrip covered in dirt and patches of grass. In the background, several people are standing or boarding the aircraft, preparing for a flight. The sky appears overcast, contributing to a calm atmosphere.]

Meet Schwan, an incredible guy seeking to become the first wheelchair user to travel the whole of Africa!

We fortunately had the pleasure of asking Schwan a few questions about his impressive mission and you can check out the full interview here: https://theworldisaccessible.com/exclusive-interview-meet-the-first-person-to-cross-africa-by-wheelchair/

He is traveling on an open road, surrounded by a dry, grassy landscape. He wears a black bucket hat, has a full beard, and his left arm has visible tattoos. The handbike appears rugged and well-suited for long-distance journeys, equipped with water bottles and gear. In the background, the road stretches into the horizon, flanked by scattered trees under a clear sky.]

This is so wonderful to see! Apple's CEO Tim Cook being expertly interviewed by Spencer West! It's also great to hear about Apple's continued efforts to improve accessibility features - something which they have proudly championed for many years already.

Also, it's incredible to see Spencer smashing opportunities like this. We proudly recommended Spencer’s social media platforms in our very first newsletter back in June of last year. 💖 Go follow him!

Granted it's a little bit niche, but my family and I visited the Museu de Ciências e Tecnologia - PUCRS over the weekend and had a lovely time, but there were one or two accessibility issues to consider. Check out the Zamonos review I just wrote about the experience: https://www.zamonos.com/place/gcp:ChIJRQlAw_53GZURiI-GpgxLQvo

One thing I forgot to mention in the review is that upon leaving the museum we had to take another lift back to the car park. This lift was one of those where you have to push and hold the button to the bottom. For whatever reason, the button wasn't working and we accidentally pressed the big red alarm button. Let me tell you, having that alarm progressively get louder in a vast, echoey open space, almost had my face turning the same color as the button we'd just pressed! Quite embarrassing and it took a troubling amount of time for someone to come and see what was wrong.

Chewing the fat with Ian Streets is hardly a chore. We have most of our meetings in local bars and restaurants and always, of course, putting duty first. Instinctively we’ll find ourselves assessing the ins and outs of the venue. That is literally whether people can actually get in and out of it! ...

Today's a special day because it's the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), signed into law on July 26, 1990. This landmark law was a game-changer, banning discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, like jobs, schools, transportation, and any public or private place open to the general public. The ADA has been a cornerstone in ensuring people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

But the impact of the ADA didn't stop at the U.S. borders. It sparked a global movement for disability rights, leading to similar legislation around the world. For example, the United Kingdom rolled out the Disability Discrimination Act in 1995, and Australia followed with its own Disability Discrimination Act in 1992. These laws, inspired by the ADA, have helped make the world a more inclusive and accessible place, promoting equal opportunities and tackling discrimination. So, let's celebrate the ADA and its huge role in shaping a fairer, more inclusive world for everyone!

[Image Description: A celebratory collage for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). At the center, there's a large text reading "Happy Birthday ADA - Americans with Disabilities Act" in a mix of red, white, and blue colors on a dark background. Surrounding this central text are various images of people with disabilities: a man in a wheelchair, a child using a prosthetic leg, a person with a guide dog, a woman in a library, a young girl using a laptop, and several other individuals in diverse settings showcasing different aspects of accessibility and inclusion. The borders of the image feature repeated smaller texts of "ADA Americans with Disabilities Act" in alternating red and blue fonts. The collage highlights the diversity and achievements of the disability community in honor of the ADA's anniversary.]

Today marks the 34th anniversary of the USA's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA has not only transformed the lives of people with disabilities in the USA but has also promoted greater accessibility, inclusion, and rights for people with disabilities around the world. Here are some important ways the ADA has impacted the lives of people with disabilities and their families in countries around the world:

🔵 Legislation: The ADA has served as a blueprint for disability rights legislation in other countries. Nations have adopted similar laws and policies to promote accessibility and prevent discrimination against people with disabilities.

🔵 Advocacy: The ADA has inspired and empowered disability rights activists worldwide. Advocacy groups in various countries have used the ADA as a benchmark to push for similar protections and accommodations in their legal systems.

🔵 Standards and Practices: The ADA has influenced global standards for accessibility, encouraging international organizations, businesses, and governments to adopt best practices in building design, transportation, and public services.

🔵 Awareness and Attitudes: The ADA has contributed to raising awareness about disability rights and the importance of inclusion on a global scale. This has led to greater societal collaboration with people with disabilities.

🔵 Technology and Innovation: The ADA has spurred technological advancements in assistive devices and accessible technology, which have been adopted and further developed by other countries. This has improved the quality of life for people with disabilities worldwide.

🔵 Educational Opportunities: The ADA’s emphasis on inclusive education has influenced global educational practices, leading to greater inclusion of students with disabilities in schools and universities.

🔵 Employment Practices: The ADA’s employment provisions have set an example for workplace inclusion, encouraging international companies to implement similar practices and policies to accommodate employees with disabilities.

🔵 Cross-Border Collaboration: The ADA has fostered international collaboration and knowledge-sharing among disability rights organizations, researchers, and policymakers, promoting a global exchange of ideas and solutions.

🔵 Human Rights Framework: The principles of the ADA have been incorporated into international human rights frameworks, such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), which has been ratified by many countries.

🔵 Travel and Tourism: The ADA’s impact on accessible travel and tourism has influenced global standards, leading to more accessible destinations and accommodations for travelers with disabilities.

The evolution of equity for people with disabilities continues, which is why zamonos.com was built. First and foremost, it is an empowerment tool. It brings us together as a community to crowdsource accessibility information. Reviews empower others to go places with confidence. Please join us today - it’s easy and fun to use, too! Let’s go!
