Two hundred years ago, on July 15, 1823, a fire destroyed much of the ancient basilica of San Paolo fuori le Mura (Saint Paul outside the Walls). It was completely rebuilt trying to restore the original atmosphere. Among the surviving works of art, stands out the Ciborium of the high altar, created by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1285.

Not far from Rome: the nice village of Subiaco with the two Benedictine monasteries. In this picture, the monastery of St. Benedict (Sacro Speco), perched in the rocky wall of Mount Taleo.

The interior - complicated maze of rooms, churches, chapels, carved from the rock - is decorated with precious frescoes, spanning a period between the eighth century and the fifteenth.

🇮🇹 Una nuova grande mostra alle Scuderie del Quirinale fino al 10 aprile 2023: “Arte liberata 1937-1947”. Con l’esposizione di numerose opere, fotografie storiche e interessanti documenti, la mostra ripercorre l’opera delle donne e degli uomini che ai tempi del secondo conflitto mondiale hanno lavorato tenacemente per salvare il nostro patrimonio artistico. Se volete visitarla con me, continuate a seguirmi: a breve pubblicherò le date per le visite guidate!

Con questo itinerario vogliamo ripercorrere la storia di uno straordinario complesso della Roma antica, le Terme di Diocleziano, dall’età imperiale fino alle sistemazioni urbanistiche di fine Ottocento, visitando anche il Museo Nazionale Romano (sede delle Terme) e la Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli.
