Deep within the rainforests of Panama reside the Emberá people, one of the country's seven major indigenous groups. With a history that predates the Spanish conquest, the Emberá have managed to preserve their rich traditions and cultural identity amidst the ever-changing modern world.

Distinguished by their vibrant body paintings, crafted from the natural dye of the jagua fruit, and their intricately woven baskets and beadwork, the Emberá are a living testament to Panama's indigenous heritage. Their traditional attire, which includes colorful skirts for women and loincloths for men, further accentuates their deep-rooted connection to their ancestry.
Living in harmony with nature, the Emberá build their homes, known as "palapas," on stilts along riverbanks. These elevated structures, made from natural materials like palm leaves and wood, protect them from floods and offer a cool refuge from the tropical heat.

The Panama Canal, spanning 50 miles across the Isthmus of Panama, is a monumental engineering achievement that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Initiated by the French in 1881 and completed by the U.S. in 1914, it revolutionized global trade by offering a shortcut, eliminating the lengthy journey around South America.

The canal uses a series of innovative locks to raise and lower ships, with the artificial Gatun Lake supplying water for this system. In 2016, an expansion was completed to accommodate larger "New Panamax" vessels.

While the canal has boosted Panama's economy and reshaped global shipping routes, it has also posed environmental challenges, prompting efforts towards sustainability.

Today, the Panama Canal remains a pivotal global trade artery and a testament to human ingenuity.

Tapirs, specifically the Brazilian, Baird's, Mountain, and Kabomani species, are remarkable creatures native to the diverse ecosystems of Central and South America. These species are part of the Tapiridae family, one of the oldest existing mammalian lineages, with a history dating back to over 20 million years. He is considered a “living fossil, a survivor of the geological period millions of years ago

The tapir looks like a cross between a pig, a horse and an elephant. The tapir has a long moveable nose that it can retract, like an elephant’s trunk, except the tapir doesn’t use it to grab something, but to smell and feel.

Tapirs prefer to live near running water and they can swim well. The food of the tapir mainly consists of leaves, shoots, tender twigs, but also fruit, grass and water plants.

Surely our most challenging but also most rewarding tours are our kayak tours. Our kayak tours are only for the true off-roads enthusiasts who seek the utmost in themselves. Where you go out for +5 days alone with your kayak, guide and survival equipment you will truly experience the raw but pure life in the Amazon.

Because the kayak transports you almost silently through the Amazon River, you don't disturb the environment which gives you a much better chance of seeing birds and species that would flee with a motorized boat. The areas you paddle through are magical with the highlight being the waterfalls at Presidente Figueiredo. Not without reason, our kayak tours are currently our most popular tours among true adventurers.
