Sheldrick Wildlife Trust- the most amazing organization- yet another story of success. If East Africa is on your travel bucket this organization is worth visiting. 💖

On 7th June, we embarked on an elephant-sized operation to relocate a troublesome bull. Our mission was to move him deep into Tsavo, sparing him and a local community from certain conflict.

Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, we honour the work you do. ❤

Giants like these take your breath away.

Decades ago, rampant ivory poaching nearly wiped out East Africa’s elephants. Bigger and older animals were especially targeted for their tusks, leaving populations without their wise elders. With your help, we sought to bring them back. Through donations, we established an anti-poaching initiative that now numbers 19 trained and equipped teams across the Tsavo Conservation Area. Their security patrols have secured prime habitats for elephants, and now herds return in their droves.

This is perhaps best illustrated at Ithumba where illegal human activities once left this wild frontier devoid of elephants. After years of de-snaring patrols to eradicate poaching, we set up our Ithumba Reintegration Unit in the area and embarked on an (educated) gamble that the added protection, plus the presence of the orphans, might bring herds back to their ancestral lands. As you can see, it worked: after initial forays by wild bulls, who act as the scouts of elephants society, families followed and now our mud bath area is a riot of trumpets, trunks and wild elephants of all ages and sizes.

We are lucky to witness miracles like this on a daily basis thanks to your donations, which fund life-saving field initiatives in Kenya. Be inspired and see what we are achieving with your help at: https://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/news

Girlfriends always have each other’s backs!

It’s well known that elephants work together to solve problems – after all, it's all about team work. At our Voi Reintegration Unit, seven-year-old Godoma understands this perfectly. She plays a supportive role to best friend and main matriarch Mbegu and together, they lead the 27-strong herd of orphaned elephants growing up here. A quiet and nurturing character, Godoma likes to make sure every member feels secure, doling out love and affection to the younger orphans like Pika Pika here. While she isn’t quite ready to make the leap to a wild life yet, it’s all perfect practice for Godoma for when the time comes to play second-in-command in the wild!

Every day, our pilots conduct daily flyovers across the Tsavo ecosystem in Kenya. From their bird’s eye view, in aircraft specially chosen for low level flying, they are able to spot signs of illegal activities, poacher’s hideouts, animals in distress, orphans in need of rescuing, and all manner of wildlife emergencies. They are also treated to some spectacular sights, such as this happy pod of hippos!

Our Story

The Infinite Horizon offers tailor-made safaris to exciting destinations in Africa. All inclusive itineraries are carefully chosen to complement a sense of adventure and style without compromising quality. Accommodation is based around small lodges, classic safari camps and barefoot luxury. Activities such as mountain climbing, hot air ballooning, diving, horse riding and trekking for chimpanzee or gorillas are some of the exciting options to explore.

They say “Africa” gets into your blood- for Steve and Teena it was the same story. 20 years ago they decided to try something different. They arrived in Arusha Tanzania with a back pack, a few years later they started their company The Infinite Horizon.

Steve and Teena met while teaching in Kuwait at an International School. Teena had ventured from her home town in the wheat belt of Western Australia while Steve arrived from the UK via string of international schools including Papua New Guinea and Tanzania.

In Tanzania there was an abundance of experiences and opportunities such as being involved in Chimpanzee Conservation, film production for the BBC and Discovery channel, exploration of new safari routes, designing and building sea kayaks and mobile camps and managing lodges and luxury camps in Kenya’s Masai Mara, Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park, Arusha and the remote Mahale Mountains.
