Italy, Chile, or Greece anyone..?

Okay there are also a couple of cool spots in the U.S. on this list - why not move for a while and experience a new place and even get an incentive for it?

Sometimes the call of a new adventure - or simply a chance at relocating your job to a new place - can be too tempting to resist. If you've been thinking…

"When it comes to self-booking, it’s a golden age for price alerts, which have expanded from sale emails sent by airlines, travel agencies and other operators to fare predictions and deal disseminators."

Are you subscribed to any flight / cruise / hotel deals newsletters / websites, and have you acted on any of these deals?

It’s a golden age for price alerts, which have expanded from emails touting sales to fare predictions and deal disseminators.

Across the globe, travel providers and government agencies are responding to ‘overtourism’ with suggestions for less-crowded places and quieter seasons.

What's your take on this: do you prefer going 'off the beaten path' or do you want to cross the most famous sights off of your bucket list?

Across the globe, travel providers and government agencies are responding to ‘overtourism’ with suggestions for less-crowded places and quieter seasons.

Greetings from Knoxville, Tennessee! This is my second trip to Tennessee, but while in 2018 exploring the state on a road trip meant rushing through most places, this year I am dedicating my time to just one place: Knoxville!

Have you been to Knoxville? I'd love to hear your recommendations: What to see, where to eat, where to drink whiskey and things I shouldn't miss while I'm here!

Instagram is great for seeing beautiful and unique travel destinations, but the number of people hitting up these 15 spots for photos has ruined them.

3 months in Italy, anyone? :) And get paid for it!

Airbnb is offering four individuals the chance to spend three months living as a local in the Italian village of Grottole through its Italian Sabbatical program.

During the all-expenses-paid sabbatical, the four participants will have the chance to explore the quaint area, which comes complete with 10th-century castles, rolling valleys, olive groves, and caves where locals produce their own wine.

The Italian Sabbatical is set in the village of Grottole in southern Italy, home of 300 inhabitants and 600 empty homes. The overall goal is to breathe new life into the community and repopulate the village’s historic center over the next decade.

Would you be up for it?

Airbnb is looking for four lucky individuals to spend the summer living in the quaint Italian village of Grottole.

An insightful retrospective of a (way too rushed!) yearlong trip around the world - 52 places in 52 weeks. Over 13,000 people applied to become the New York Times Traveler 2018 who visited all the places named on the NYT's famous '52 Places To Go' list (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/travel/places-to-visit.html) - but as Jada Yuan explains, it was actually quite a stressful and challenging year.

There are some interesting lessons in her recap, and I wholeheartedly agree with this statement:
"Solo travel is an experience I’d urge every human, and particularly every woman, to try at least once."

It was a dream job, visiting the globe’s most alluring destinations on assignment. Here’s what our 2018 Traveler learned in a year of almost nonstop travel.

I regularly get emails asking me about my travel budget / travel expenses. Many of my 'How much does it cost to travel in...' posts are older, and a lot of people stumble upon the post in which I shared the expenses during the first year of full time travel (https://globetrottergirls.com/2011/05/one-year-of-travel-our-experiences/), which were just under $15,000 per person, ie. $1,250 a month - but that was in 2010/2011, and people ask me if it's still possible to travel on such little money in 2018/19. The couple featured in this article, Amirah and Jarrell, proves that it is still possible to travel a full year for less than $20,000:

When Amirah Cook and her husband set off on a four year honeymoon, they used Tim Ferriss' Dreamline sheet to map their adventures. Here's how you can follow in their steps to travel the world.

My Iceland road trip a few years ago is still one of my all-time favorite trips, and I've been wanting to go back to visit the lesser visited Snæfellsnes peninsula, which I didn't have time for when I drove the entire Ring Road.

Now I've got the perfect itinerary mapped out for me thanks to Never Ending Voyage!

Bookmark this post if you are planning a trip to Iceland and want to see some places off the beaten tourist trails.

Avoid the crowds on a 7 to 12 day Iceland itinerary to the stunning Snæfellsnes and Westfjords. Includes map, Iceland road trip tips, and detailed info.

Today marks the beginning of . This year's theme is "Earth as Inspiration."

Which part of our planet fascinates you the most?

For me, it's two starkly different things: deserts and glaciers. When I traveled through Patagonia a few years ago all the way down to Ushuaia, the gateway to Antarctica, I wish I would've been able to hop on one of the Arctic cruises to see the White Continent. Massive ice fields and icebergs, glaciers, whales, experience the stillness of the Arctic, and maybe even take a dip in the icy waters.

Did you know that Ponant Cruises Antarctica expeditions visit research stations and have New York Times science writers on board, offering educational discovery and daily lectures?

Let's talk about cruises - a lot of people seem to dislike them, but I think it's important to differentiate between those cruise lines that have a bad reputation for things like poor sewage treatment and air pollution reduction, and those that are committed to environmental and social sustainability, as most expedition cruises go to Antarctica, or Galapagos Cruises, where on my cruise we had daily lectures by certified naturalists from the Galapagos National Park. Or Paul Gauguin Cruises, also known for their small ships and who offer the wildlife discovery series where guests learn about about marine wildlife and habitats from scientists and conservationists.

Bottom line: If you are thinking about going on a cruise, make sure to do your research and find a cruise line that is not just looking at profits, but a reputable ocean-friendly eco-cruise.
