Reposted from @sustainabilitychampions During the past six decades, the world has produced about 8.4 billion tons of plastics. Most plastics or their tiny particles, aka microplastics, are found in landfills and the natural environment, like water, air and soil. Thankfully, Dr. Katrin Schuhen develop a fast and easy, filter-free solution to remove microplastics and micropollutants from water.

Dr. Katrin, founder of Wasser 3.0 (@wasser3punkt0), developed an elimination technology that is embedded in their overall strategy for microplastic-free waters: Wasser 3.0 detect | remove | reuse.
Because in the end everything comes down to detection, which has been very complicated, cost-intensive and time consuming for microplastics – until now - they have developed an easy-to-use, cost-effective and fast method in order to continuously monitor and optimize water treatment processes.
Their technology uses hybrid silica gels, non-toxic chemicals that act like glue. When you add the silica gels to the water containing microplastics and micropollutants, they clump together, incorporate the pollutants and float to the surface. Thus, they can easily get skimmed out of the water without using a filter. The collected clumps (=agglomerates) can then be used as fillers in construction industries or for other purposes. In this way, we close the loop.
They developed three concepts to remove inorganic (heavy metals), organic (pharmaceuticals, pesticides) and microplastic contaminants from waters. The goal is to achieve zero pollutants in the water.

✨SOIL IS MAGIC✨
We have partnered with @googleartsculture to tell the stories of the magic of soil.
Whilst #COP26 highlights the many environmental and climate challenges that we face, it is missing a vital component – soil - a #climatesolution.
Currently, the impact of industrial agriculture is diminishing our natural resources and polluting the atmosphere. But Regenerative Agriculture is an example of fixing the climate whilst feeding a growing population. With a change of mindset, values, and management practices, we farmers can build soil health. Healthy soil is what underpins a healthy human, a healthy ecosystem, and a healthy planet.
Our mission is to create a healthy and prosperous future. This is achieved by empowering farmers to build #healthysoils through #regenerativeagriculture.
Politicians will make the change too late. Individuals will make too little change. It is in the community that we can make a difference. We all must rise together, and to do that Soil Heroes empowers everyone we work with: we are all #Heroes.

#COP26 isn’t telling the amazing story of soil, but we are.

Progress doesn't come from sticking to what we know. ⠀
⠀
When we started talking about soy-free chicken most of the farmers we spoke to didn't think it was possible, Mark at @redwoodsfm thought differently. ⠀
⠀
We started working with Mark to produce soy-free chicken and the results were far better than even we expected. ⠀
⠀
The idea was to not to use any ingredients that have soy, and to find other ways of providing the protein the birds need without using anything that might have other⠀
deleterious effects. ⠀
⠀
This meant keeping the entire cycle additive and chemical-free.This is achieved by natural grazing on rich pasture enhanced by grazing cattle. ⠀
⠀
Mark uses mobile chicken coops that are moved daily by hand onto fresh pasture following cattle through the fields. As the cow’s graze, the chickens get to feast on the insects and worms living in the cow-dung as well as eating grass, herbs and seeds, further scratching their own dung into the soil adding even more natural phosphate-rich fertiliser. Which, in turn, enhances the pasture for the cows creating a fully enclosed regenerative cycle. The method⠀
is to treat the animals in a way that fully aligns with natures natural regenerative systems. We call this co-evolution.⠀
⠀
Mark’s Redwood farm chickens are reaching a hefty 2.5kg in 10 weeks on this diet. This is done without the neutron bombs of farming; nitrogen, genetic modification and mono-cultures.⠀
