Pomelo Fruits significance during Autumn Moon Festival (eight days from Sept.29, 2023) well, it is round and the festival is all about fullness, roundness, reunion. It is usually eaten with mooncakes.

pomelos are called “you zi”, in Mandarin, a homophone for “prayer for a son.” Eat it and put the rinds on your head if you want to ask moon goddess Chang’e for one or just want to take a silly selfie. Peanuts can go on your altar with mooncakes and pomelos and you can give your hematite and sage a break by eating pomelos cut “sha you” style, or “killing the pomelo”. Just peeling the rind cleanses negative energy and keeps evil spirits away. Probably because the citric acid spray might burn eyes? I speak from experience.

Did you know Clarion Music Shop in San Francisco Chinatown is now a performance venue with A Showgirl Museum below?! I’m talking Forbidden City, folks! I got a tour today with THE Pat Chinn, still dancing since her days at Forbidden City Nightclub in San Francisco. The museum is filled with costumes, photos, ephemera…and you might find the ensemble still rehearsing upstairs as I did. The Portiuncola in Northbeach’s Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi is a treasured copy of the one St. Francis preached at in Assisi. The chapel was situated on a morsel of land from whence we get the word Portiuncula. It lay derelict in an oak grove until, following a pilgrimage to Rome, Francis received a mystical vision of Jesus Christ in the chapel in which an icon of Christ Crucified spoke, saying "Francis, Francis, go and repair My house which, as you can see, is falling into ruins". Francis took this literally and set about restoring several ruined churches, among them the Porziuncola, little chapel of St Mary of the Angels, just outside Assisi. Our North-beach shrine in SF is an exact replica-only 7/8th size.
