3 features to look for in a family-friendly resort
When searching for a resort there are many factors to consider. When you are travelling with kids, it’s important that the resort has lots of activities that would entertain them. Here are the 3 features I looked at when I booked our March Break vacation to @sandoscaracol Eco Resort.
🛝 Waterpark - kids love a good splash pad and a waterpark is even better. Sandos Caracol has the largest waterpark in Playa den Carmen with over 20 waterslides. Lots of mini slides in the small kids area, medium slides for bigger kids, and big slides for the big kids and adults.
🏖️ Beach - give a kid a bucket and a spade and they are happy at the beach. While the beach at Sandos Caracol was rocky and needed water shoes, the kids had fun exploring the tide pools looking for fish, searching for shells on the beach, and playing in the sand. If you like to snorkel this beach has a lot of areas to see fish.
🏰 Kids Club - many resorts offer a kids club that provides supervised kids activities where you can drop kids off for a few hours. Even if you don’t want to drop them off, having a kids club on site is a nice indoor activity to take a break from the sun and heat. Check out the activities calendar to see what’s available. In addition to the kids club, Sandos Caracol has a teen lounge with a gaming room and a sports bar with pool tables and ping pong.
These are just a few factors to consider when searching for a resort. Other features might include a lazy river, animals on-site, water sports, resort layout, room layout, heated pools and more.

Surviving the airport with kids ✈️
I love when my phone creates these memory videos. This is from our vacation to Florida last year. This little video is a perfect example of how we like to spend our time at the airport before boarding.
Here are some tips we found helpful:
🔹Give yourself plenty of time. We like to go early and get customs and security out of the way. Once we’re on the other side, I feel like we can relax and this is when our vacation starts.
🔹Use the lounge or find a restaurant. This is a great way to unwind. Since food on a plane is unpredictable, we always feed the kids before we get on and we use this time to find some snacks and kid-friendly food to take with us on the plane. Our credit card comes with free lounge passes and we always use them when we can.
🔹Find airport play areas. Many airports have a kid-friendly play area where they can burn off some energy.
🔹Pack entertainment and toys. Each airline now has their own app so we make sure to download these to access their in-flight entertainment. It’s also a good idea to download videos and movies onto our tablets in advance. I also like to bring some small toys that the kids can play with at the airport or during the flight.
🔹Early boarding. We like to board early, especially if we are installing a car seat on the plane like we did here. This lets us get settled without us feeling like we’re holding everyone up.
🔹Enjoy the journey. Getting to the destination is part of the fun. Sure it’s probably the most stressful, but if you switch your mindset and make it part of your vacation it will help you get through it. Your kids are excited to be on a plane, so talk to them about it. Point out all the features in the airport and on the plane. If you talk to the crew, they might invite you up to the cockpit.
