Dear customers, neighbors and friends of Funny Girl Farm,
We are deeply grateful for your support of the farm as we have grown over the past six years.
The farm and farmstand will be closing permanently on Saturday, December 15, 2018.
This community means so much to us. Over the years at the farmstand we have heard about your happy days and hard days, shared our favorite recipes and tried new foods together. On the farm you have joined us for tours and pop-ups and gathered for storytime and yoga. This year, we watched kids learn, play and get messy in our fields, woods and creek in our budding education program.
We have gotten to know many of you (and your pets and kids!) as much more than customers -- we consider you friends. In return we have felt your love and care for our staff and the farm and, of course, our happy hens.
We hope you will join us at the farmstand to shop over the next two weeks (we'll have some great deals!), but most importantly because we would love to see you in person and to say a proper farewell.
We will have a book at the farmstand for you to record any messages for our staff or memories about what the farm and farmstand has meant to you.
We hope you continue to support small sustainable farms and local artisan food businesses with your food dollars. It is hugely impactful for those of us working in this field.
Our Farmstand CSA members and education program participants will receive additional information regarding our closure.

💜🍠Purple Sweet Potato Pancakes🍠💜 These were so good!!! Food process cooked sweet potatoes with a couple of eggs, salt and spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cardamom until smooth. Pour the batter into a hot pan with butter or coconut oil. Fun toppings: walnuts, candied ginger, cayenne, maple syrup or peanut butter. Our purple sweet potatoes will wow a crowd in your Thanksgiving dishes! See you 2-6pm at the farmstand.

Our Farmstand CSA members lent a hand with one of the biggest and most rewarding jobs on the farm: sweet potato harvest! This is about half of what they harvested on Friday morning🍠🍠🍠, and there are many more in the ground. Of course, we sent them home with some to cure and enjoy. Our new pullet chickens arrived this week and they are delightfully cute! They are also a lot of work. Our farmers are spending lots of extra time on chicken chores because it takes a while for the birds to learn to go in and out of the coop and to get up on their roosts.

NEW delightful foraged product! We have black walnuts foraged from trees on the farm. Our farmers worked very hard to remove their outer shell and clean and dry them. They taste great! We have an exciting partnership with Durham Academy whose 8th grade students are tackling projects about outdoor education on the farm. During a recent visit the students got their hands dirty planting garlic and harvesting sweet potatoes. In addition to our menu of field trip curriculum for all ages, our Education Coordinator Tara works with schools to design custom experiences for students.
