""Incredibly executed. We spoke for about two-three hours about how these candles would look and smell, the themes they would be fitting and the tints of each and every drip. When the package arrived, I was greeted by a wonderful hand-signed letter with my invoice in it, ultra safety packing that protected the candles from being broken or drips being snapped during delivery and they arrived in record time. I love them, they came out EXACTLY as I imagined and a few of them, even more so than I could have. Even getting a single candle you'll realize the time, care and precision gone into each one. I know what you're going to say.

"Perky! You haven't posted in over a YEAR, and your first return post is... another divination set by the people that brought us the marvelous Alleyman's Tarot, the number 1 funded tarot deck in Kickstarter history, both in money pledged AND number of backers?"

Yes. Yes it is.

(And to answer your other question; no, I'm not getting anything to post this glowing review of both The Alleyman's Tarot AND the Oracle Dice. I just really love them both.)

You see, I backed the Alleyman's Tarot, and when it arrived, it was amazing beyond what I dreamed it could be. It's not just the massively diverse deck, the box, the cloth, and all the little tokens that add depth. It's that it grew an entire community around it ( The Alley ), and that community is full to the brim of wonderful people from around the world, swapping tips and tricks, discussing their newly developed spreads, creating and deepening the Alleyman's lore, and so much more. The Alley welcomes all who wander in. If you were lost before, you've now found Sanctuary among the rest of us misfits and oddballs; you're not a stranger anymore, you're amongst friends.

When I saw the Oracle Dice pop up in The Alley, it made my little nerd heart sing. You see, I'm not just a witchcraft nerd; I'm a regular nerd too, and I can't resist a beautiful set of dice. Combine that with my penchant for oracle decks, and I was hitting "pledge" before I even knew which level I wanted. They're hitting the stretch goals quick; personally, I'm hoping we hit at *least* the $200k mark for that awesome 200 page workbook. With a full set of dice, a bag, a guidebook, and a reading cloth only coming in at $35 I think we just might make it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

As a bonus, if you missed the glorious Alleyman's Tarot before, you can get it as an add-on here. It's the full 137 card deck (yes, 137 cards. It's a beast to shuffle but it's worth it), the four booster packs, the guidebook, and there's an option to add the cigar box too. I highly recommend the cigar box as it holds all 137 original cards plus the 59 cards from the booster packs very comfortably (As a perk, adding on 59 more cards to shuffle helps me mark "arm day" off on my workout schedule).

My Alleyman's Tarot is my favorite, go-to deck for any and all readings. I have a feeling these Oracle Dice are going to become a mainstay in my divination practice too. If you're interested, grab a set while you can; the campaign ends July 14th.

(Check the comments of this post for more Alleyman's Tarot news.)

The iconic oracle dice set from the creator of the Alleyman's Tarot is back with a second edition. 21 custom made dice, 126 faces of fate... What futures will your dice foretell?

This is such a neat concept for a deck! I backed this one almost as soon as I saw it. If you're like me (part crow, part magpie, and having an impossible time finding a single-themed deck that communicates the way you need it to) then I think you'll like it too ^_^

A mismatched tarot deck made up of 133-cards from other decks, old and new alike.

What an awesome opportunity to get an incredibly unique deck! You all know there's no way I could pass this up. ^_^

Alice The Troll Catcher

Green
The distance from our house to the forest is about 20 meters. My little brother and sister often play there with the neighbour's children, but they never go deep into the thicket. Once I heard my sister screaming right from the forest, she called for help, because brother was mired in the swamp. It took me minutes to reach them, but when I got there, I found them both standing silent on the bank of the swamp. Brother was in mud up to his neck, breathing heavily. That evening I asked my sister what had she seen. Sister said only one word: "Green"
"Green?" I repeated. "What's Green?" I asked her over and over, but it seemed like the little girl couldn't explain it. She simply covered her eyes with her hands, shook her head and repeated: "Green...Green...Green"
Since this incident, I began to notice a weird thing. Right at the edge of the forest, children stuck thin sticks into the ground and every morning they impaled insects on these sticks. It was a very creepy and obscure game, so I decided to spy on them. They just played ordinary children's games, but when the sun began to set, my brother suddenly stopped dead and stared towards the forest. “It's Green,” he said. "Green! Green!" - rest of the children repeated. As I watched in awe, one by one, the children stopped playing, went to impaled insects on sticks and covered their eyes with their hands. They all stood motionless facing the forest.
I was terrified by this "ritual" and immediately ran to them. "Why are you doing this? What does it mean?" - I asked roughly. They were silent and continued to press their palms tightly to their eyes. "Answer me!" - I demanded.
“This is gratitude,” - whispered sister, not turning away from the forest.
"Gratitude to whom?!" - I screamed.
Without opening her eyes, she pointed to the forest and said only one word - "Green"
I gaze into the dark thicket unsuccessfully, and then turned my gaze to the sticks. There were no longer Impaled insects on them. ~From words of a young farmer

Hey witches: Let's make it super clear: "spirit animal" is appropriation of Indigenous culture.
It is not part of "witch culture" we took it... and we have talked about this here before and sadly I'm sure we will again.
Non-BIPOC witches need to understand and own the fact that many, MANY of our practices are taken from marginalized cultures and we need to do better. It's ok to have not known- but once its pointed out instead of arguing just use another damn phrase.

We need to recognize our own privileges and evaluate our own experiences and traditions through that lens.
Maybe instead of digging in you could try "I'm sorry, I didn't see it that way, I'm going to do some research into this topic."

And again, it is important to remember that being an "out of the broom closet" witch is in itself a political act.

The Perky Hedgewitch

Hard to believe that I've been practicing this long. It definitely doesn't feel it! Spiritually speaking, it's been a great 17 years. Here's to many more! :-)

Today is a very special day for me. 13 years ago I stood in a dorm room, in front of my very simple altar, and I dedicated myself to my path. I was filled with a jumble of emotions; fear, excitement, worry, joy, and a lot of things that I can't even put into words. What's really important, though, is what I felt afterwards. When all was said and done, the last candle blown out, the incense snuffed, I felt a peace, deep deep down in my soul. It was peace and a sureness I'd never felt before. I knew I had made the right decision. It felt like coming home.

Happy witch-aversary to me :)
