Maharashtra State Police Headquarters was Previously The Royal Alfred Sailors Home. Neptune is the God of Freshwater & The Sea in Roman Mythology. Poseidon is the God of Sea in The Greek Mythology & Samudradev is the God of Sea in Sanatani Spirituality. The Architect of The Royal Alfred Sailors Home is Fredrick William Stevens. This Grade I Building was built between 1872 & 1876. Prince Alfred was the Second Son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Maharaja Of Baroda Khanderia Gaekwad contributed Rs 2,00,000 towards the construction of this Building.

What a Lovely Exciting Evening…

Did a Mumbai Heritage Tour for and his girlfriend.

When Jack Messaged Me On WhatsApp, I told him that his Last Name sounds very familiar and sounded like the Last name of a very Famous International Cricketer from Ireland.

Since I have not been watching Cricket as before I could not tell him which player I was talking about other then the Last Name of the Cricket Player from Ireland.

I felt this could just be a coincidence that Jack shared the last name with this International Cricket Player. Jack shared a Photo of him with his brother from an International Cricket Stadium and I immediately recognised the player with him in the photo.

Jack is the Younger Brother of Andrew Balbirine, the Dashing International Cricketer from Team Ireland. We had a great time talking about Heritage, History & Cricket. Jack is a very humble and down to earth person just like his brother Andrew.

George Nicholas Hardinge was an officer of who served during the and

On 6 March 1808, Captain Hardinge, while patrolling Indian Ocean came across Three East Indiamen (General Name of any Sailing Ship Operating under the Charter or Licence to any East India Trading Companies based in Europe) being pursued by a French Frigate named “Piémontaise” which was a French Frigate with 40 Guns. Hardinge turned to confront the Frenchman who attempted to Escape.

St Fiorenzo chased the Piémontaise for the next several days, with intermittent fighting as the French turned to engage their pursuer, before sailing away again. They were finally brought to a decisive battle on 8 March, where after an hour and twenty minutes of fierce fighting, they surrendered.

French losses amounted to 48 dead and 112 wounded, while the British lost 13 dead and 25 wounded.

Captain Hardinge was among the dead, killed by grapeshot shortly before the Piémontaise surrendered.

He was buried at Colombo with full military honours, and monuments to his memory were erected in St Thomas Cathedral of Bombay and in St Paul's Cathedral.

Following this action he was awarded a £300 Lloyd's Patriotic Fund Silver Vase, the inscription upon which reads: 'IN MEMORY OF GEORGE NICHOLAS HARDINGE ESQ'R CAPTAIN OF HMS ST. FIORENZO, OF 36 GUNS Who NOBLY FELL in the Moment of Victory, while COMMANDING THAT SHIP in ACTION with LA PIEDMONTESE, FRENCH SHIP, of 50 GUNS, OFF CEYLON on the 8 of March 1808 after a continued ACTION of the Three successive Days as recorded in the LONDON Gazette of the 20 of December 1808 THIS VASE IS PRESENTED TO HIS UNCLE GEORGE HARDINGE ESQR KINGS COUNCIL ATTORNEY GENERAL TO THE QUEEN, and his MAJESTY'S JUSTICE for the Counties of Glamorgan, Brecon and Radnor FROM THE PATRIOTIC FUND AT LLOYDS'.

On 29 November 1809, His Majesty George III granted to the Hardinge family an augmentation to their coat of arms commemorating both the victory over Piemontaise and Hardinge's earlier victory over Atalanta.

was a Era Paddle Steam of the Company. The Ship was Constructed in Northfleet in 1839 and arrived in on 19 April 1840. Cleopatra Operated as a Transport & Mail Steamer between to , & .

On 15 April 1847, when Cleopatra was returning from to Bombay, it got stuck in a Cyclonic Storm off the Coast in the .

The ship was carrying 300 People on it. A Crew of 151, 100 Convicts & the Remaining Passengers were at that time.

The Captain Commander of the Ship J.A. Young on the previous voyage from Aden to Bombay had complained to the Authorities that the paddle boxes had to be secured with chains running across the deck. The authorities had ignored his complaint.

The Cyclone destroyed the Ship & Killed nearly 300 of its Passengers.

This memorial was dedicated to those who lost their lives on Cleopatra when it foundered on 15 April 1847. is the word used when the Ship Sinks to the Bottom of the Sea.

The Memorial also Mentions One J.T. Carr, Assistant Surgeon whose full name was James Thomas Carr, who happened to be Son of the then Serving Inaugural of Bombay Rt. Revd. Thomas Carr.

The Memorial however does not mention the 150 Convicts who were on the Ship.

The siege of Mangalore was conducted during the Second Anglo Mysore War by Tipu Sultan and forces of the Kingdom of Mysore against a British East India Company garrison led by Colonel Campbell.

The port city of Mangalore on the west coast of India was besieged from 20 May 1783 until the garrison capitulated on 30 January 1784 after being reduced to starvation; of the original garrison of 700 British soldiers and 2000 Indian troops there were only 850 survivors.

The siege was one of the last major actions of the war, Mangalore was where the treaty ending the war was signed in March 1784.

This Memorial at the St Thomas Cathedral is Dedicated to Lieutenant Colonel John Campbell by the East India Company.

This White Building you are seeing is the Town Hall of Mumbai, where many Important People of British Bombay would gather and take Important Decisions related to Mumbai.

This location is the very location from where the Queen Victoria’s Proclamation was Read Out to the People Gathered at the Bombay Green located in front of this Town Hall, after the Queen Disbanded the East India Company and took the Reigns of India in her Own Hands sometime around in 1858.

When Foreigners visit Mega Cities like Mumbai, they experience this Fascination from Indian people to click photos with them. Our guest Vania from European Union was kind Enough to Pose with her Indian Fans. So what is the Story behind Indian people having fascination towards Western People.

We were at the Gateway of India. Majority of the Tourists who visit here from India are not from Mumbai and come from many small towns and cities to explore Mumbai. They don’t have access to Foreigners in their towns. They are not used to seeing Foreigners often except when they watch Hollywood Movies or Watch IPL and see Foreign Players. So they click Photos with Foreigners at Tourist Places as Foreigners themselves are a Tourist Attraction for them. They then go home and show these photos to their family and friends saying they have made some new friends from the other parts of the World or from Outside India.

So next time if you have some Indian Tourists coming to you and not saying something and just smiling, you can ask them if they want to take a photo with you.
