Mmmm … dreaming about classic tropical breakfast. This one's from in Nosara. Delicious over-easy egg, rice and beans, fried plaintain, avocado … and coffee, of course.

Trails. Hot springs. Mud bath. Nestled in El Ricon de la vieja park are clear pools and hot springs. When you stop at the hot springs, take a mud bath too … it's more body mask than a dip in a pool of mud, but rejuvenating all the same. These hot springs are about a 90-minute drive from Casa del Colibrí Negro. A fun, relaxing and refreshing day out.

Jennifer stayed a few nights in March and had this to say:
This was a great place to stay. The place is clean and is as described, the best part is the location. This is only across the street from the beach and is within walking distance to many restaurants, bars, and a couple of small grocery stores. We loved the area! We did not have a car, but did rent a golf cart a couple of days to see the area beyond Playa Portreo. The communication and check in and out was easy and quick. Would stay here again!

Just a 15 minute drive up the hilly coast from Casa del Colibrí Negro is a planned community called Las Catalinas. The new urbanism plan for Las Catalinas is impressive … comfortable density, walkable, easy access to nature's beauty in all directions from trails in the hills to the soft sand and surf of Playa Danta. The plans are ambitious with several phases still to come. Today there are already lots of quaint amenities along the cobbled streets. There's public parking and beach access at the north end of town. From there, stroll the town or relax on the beach for a day's adventure.

The crew at Nita serves a good brew and for breakfast, their spin on Gallo Pinto is a bonus treat. El Quebrado is a gorgeous plate of rice and beans along with poached egg, bacon, caramelized onions, grilled Turrialba cheese and baguette toasts. Flavours and textures across the plate work together deliciously.
