We had a fabulous time on the free maple tour at Ben's Sugar Shack & The Maple Station Market in Temple, NH. With a tour leaving every 15 minutes, it was very easy to get in line and start the tour. The first half is on a wagon that takes you out to one of their stands of trees. Next, you hop off and learn about the trees and the tapping process. After a short ride back to the store, you get to see the giant boiler and ask Ben any questions you might still have!

And they are so generous with the free samples. Sugar on snow, 3 grades of syrup, maple cream, maple cotton candy, maple cookies and more! If you're in the area, I highly recommend taking one of their weekend tours in March. It was informative for all ages, and if you have accessibility issues, you can skip the wagon portion and go straight to the delicious treats.

People don’t tend to associate Death Valley with fungi, and with good cause–it’s the driest place in North America. Yet, they find a way!

One mushroom in particular, Podaxis pistillarus, or the desert shaggy mane, is an unusual mushroom that thrives in dry and hot desert landscapes. These eye-catching white-to-brown fruiting bodies carry spores to help the fungus reproduce, while most of the organism lives underground. If you visit Death Valley, keep an eye out for these desert weirdos, and please leave them in place for others to enjoy!

We're so excited to have illustrator Ellen T Crenshaw join us this year! Ellen is the creator of The Babysitter's Club graphic novel adaptations of "Stacey's Mistake" and "Kristy and the Walking Disaster" by Ann M Martin. She is also the co-creator of "Kiss Number 8" with Colleen AF Venable.

On a sad note, plan for all US national parks to be closed or shortened opening this year due to staffing issues. The closures are starting to be announced already. I'll try to share some as I see them.

If this upsets you as it does me, please contact your representatives and let them know how you feel. The current administration cut the funding for these amazing places.

It is another frozen, gray February day here in New England. But, it’s a great time to get cozy with a cup of tea and watch the next installment of our relaxing driving videos. Do you know what all services your library offers? See how your local library can help with your travel budget in my latest post!

How is your wallet doing these days? From groceries to utilities, it seems like the cost of everything is continuing to go up. I was out running errands this morning and happened to drive home past our local library. I love the library so much, and not just for the free books. If you have […]

A heads up for travel to Santorini. Stay safe everyone.

Greece has declared a state of emergency on Santorini after hundreds of undersea earthquakes shook the resort island for nearly a week.

Stay safe, Iceland! If you're visiting, heed the warnings. Iceland weather doesn't mess around.

UPDATE: The Icelandic Met Office has upgraded the storm warning to RED across the entire country (except for dwellers of that utopia known as the Westfjords).

Parents in Reykjavík are being asked to pick up their children from school and afterschool programs immediately. The Met Office is predicting wind damage from this violent storm and advises people to stay indoors.

Part two of our Iceland road trip video is up in which you can observe us getting more and more tired as the day goes on... read more here.

We’ve uploaded the second video in our Iceland series, and this one is pretty hilarious. We flew out of Boston at 7:15pm, and we arrived in Iceland at 4:45am. We got a nice burst of adrenaline early on, but that chemical jolt (and the coffee) started to fade as the day went on…and on…and on. [...

It was a cold, windy, wet day on Snæfellsnes Peninsula in Iceland when we went. But we still managed to have a great time!

On our second to last day in Iceland, we took a chance with the weather and decided to go see the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. We drove from Reykholt, and circled the peninsula counter clockwise north to south, ending the day by Ytri Tunga. It was a cold, wet, snowy, and foggy day as we set out, […]
