Sad News - Famous Bear 399 Fatally Struck by Car.
Many of you are familiar with "the most famous grizzly bear in the world - 399 - in the Tetons." She was killed Tuesday evening after being hit by a car on the highway in the Snake River Canyon near Jackson, WY. She was positively identified through her microchip. Her cub, Spirit, was with her but there is no indication of any injury to him. Attached are pictures I've taken of 399 over the past four years including one of her and her quads in 2021 (click to see full image).

I ran into Sharon on the side of the road near that opening between the Deer Mountain Junction and the Beaver Ponds. It’s a place I call “Moose Meadow.” That late spring day, there were three elk with small velvet antlers grazing in the meadow, and both of our cameras were active.

The fall elk rut (mating season) is always incredible in RMNP. Each year I join many photographer friends on RMNPhotographer Tours working to capture the most intriguing images of dynamic bull elk. As the rut has come to an end, here are five images captured in September of the dominate elk from this year's rut. RMNPhotographer.com & bradmanardphotography.com

Thank you, Miranda, for the wonderful Google review of your two tours.
REVIEW: What a wonderful experience we had last weekend with Brad and Dave of RMNPhotographer tours! We booked two half day tours (Lakes and Meadows and Mountain to Sky) and were able to really explore the beauty, wildlife, geology, and history of RMNP, thanks to the passion, knowledge, and enthusiasm of Brad and Dave. Brad took us on a lovely hike that was perfect for our 6 year old son (and that we loved too!) and gave us the chance to experience incredible wildlife viewing of the elk rut. Dave took us on an exciting walk (safely and respectfully) tracking moose. We saw s**t, tracks, and even beds where the elk has slept, which was almost more exciting than actually seeing moose themselves. He totally engaged our curious kid and was amazingly generous with his time and deep knowledge of nature and the park. Between the two tours we were able to make the absolute most of our short time at the park. Brad and Dave know every inch of the park and were able to share the best experiences in a really seamless and organized way. As newcomers to the area we could never have managed to see and experience as much on our own, and it was fantastic to have them drive the car so we could all relax and enjoy. I highly recommend this tour company!

WILDERNESS WHISPERS: Black Bears in Hyperphagia
This week's "Wilderness Whispers" article is about a black bear encounter during the bear's hyperphagia when they eat excessively in preparation for hibernation.

It was the end of August two years ago. The choke cherries had ripened to a deep purple, and the black bears were in hyperphagia. Despite being in RMNP almost daily either photographing wildlife, the dynamic images of the park, or guiding a RMNPhotographer Tour, I had only spotted a couple of black....

WILDERNESS WHISPERS: RMNP Reflections

I think I like images that include reflections because I am a reflector. I reflect back on life, the lessons learned, and the memories the image create. In my most recent book, Mentors and Influences: Fun Tales and the Transformational Impact of Lessons Learned in Life released on August 12 (Amazon....

Guests. We all love to have them, but silently hope they don’t overstay their welcome. It’s been that way in our Estes Park neighborhood for the past couple of weeks.

Enjoyed a great full-day "Over the Top" Tour with this wonderful couple, Chuck and Susan. They had been to Alaska yet had never seen a moose, so I made finding a moose my mission. The mission was accomplished when we watched a cow moose and her calf feed in an open meadow. RMNPhotographer.com
