After nearly 3 months and several seemingly empty promises I am resorting to social media in an attempt to shake this company into action and to warn others who may be considering hiring them for a bathroom refit. I have taken countless days off work to wait for people who do not show up or who arrive so late that there is insufficient time to complete the work required. Every aspect of this bathroom has had to be re-done at least once and this has often created all new problems that then need to be addressed. My last contact with this company was on 31st May when 2 fitters came round to complete the outstanding work. After initially being promised that they would turn up at 10 this was amended on the day to between 10 and 12. At just after 12 I received a call to say they would arrive within the hour but it was actually after 13:30 when they finally showed up. I texted Jason Galek (company manager) to express concern that this did not leave enough time to complete the outstanding work but received no reply to that message. What was achieved that afternoon was them removing the original tops to my new units and cutting a worktop to size, the worktop is sitting loose on the top of the units. The splashback was removed from behind these units as it was poorly fitted originally, and a new splashback was cut. This new splashback was not fitted but was taken away by the fitters so we are now left with bare plasterboard in its place. They also removed the facings from around the bathroom door and took those away too. They informed us that we would need to get the plasterboard skimmed before the splashback was replaced to achieve a high quality finish (at our cost), this had not been mentioned at all up to this point and feels like an excuse/stalling technique on their part. The fitters left, promising to be in touch shortly to arrange final completion (again), I have heard nothing in the two weeks since that date. Every (entirely reasonable) deadline I have set has been breached and there is no indication that completing this job is a priority to Jason Galek and CHC Home Improvements. Even the fact that I need the bathroom completed prior to my husbands surgery at the end of the month, which will leave him unable to walk, has not moved them to prioritise completion. In fact on sharing this with one of the fitters at the last visit, his response was 'well the bathroom is useable so you won't have to carry him downstairs to use the other bathroom'. Not quite the point mate!
If you are considering using CHC Home Improvements for any work in your home I would urge you to do your research prior to handing over any money. I'm sure they have a lot of satisfied customers and have carried out some high quality work but if something goes wrong do you really want a 3 month + battle to get the bathroom you have been promised? Check out the reviews on their own FB page, would you trust a company that has to award themselves 5 stars on three separate occasions to keep their average up? (Galek family ratings)
Thanks for reading and sharing, I'll keep you posted on our progress and hopefully we'll have a completed bathroom soon!
