It's Whale Shark season! Each year, between mid-May and mid-September, whale sharks migrate to the warm waters near , Isla Holbox, and Isla Mujeres. Whale sharks are the world's largest fish and are harmless to humans. Adult whale sharks are around 25 feet long and weigh roughly 20,000 pounds. You can swim with the giant fish, in the open water.

Many Americans think Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day (Independence Day is actually September 16th), or some other great reason to have a big party. Well, the truth is, the day is really not celebrated in Mexico.

On this day, Mexico defeated France in The Battle of Puebla, in Puebla, Mexico. Mainly, the town of Puebla celebrates Cinco de Mayo, but it's mostly celebrated in the US. We can thank Mexican beer companies for making this day one big fiesta.

If you travel to one of Mexico's many tourist areas that are visited by Americans, you will find fun Cinco de Mayo celebrations in hotels and nightclubs.

Happy Earth Day!

Even while vacationing in or Riviera Maya, you can do little things to help protect the environment.

1. You can stay in an eco-friendly resort. Sandos Resorts and Real Resorts are just two of the major hoteliers, in the area, that go to great lengths to conserve energy and recycle.

2. Don't litter. (That includes throwing cigarette butts on the beach.)

3. Only use biodegradable sunscreen, if you plan to swim in the sea or cenotes. Regular sunscreen contains components that damage the coral reefs and harm sea life. If you go on any snorkeling or diving tours, you are only allowed to use biodegradable sunscreen, so pack accordingly.

4. Turn off all lights, when you leave your hotel room.

5. Whenever possible, drink out of glasses, instead of plastic cups.

6. If you see any trash on the beach, please pick it up and throw it in a trash can.
