80 years ago, on August 15th, 1944, a second landing took place on the French Mediterranean coast. 50.000 allied troops landed, mostly French and Americans. 861 American soldiers and 294 names of Missing in Action are visible at Draguignan American cemetery. They are not forgotten.

I recently guided the société française des Cincinnati, association of the descendants of the French officers who served at Yorktown with La Fayette and Rochambeau in 1781. They are 500 members. There flag has 14 stars, 13 for the first states of the USA, plus one for France. There is also an American Society of Cincinnati.

Tim Coey showing a picture of his grand father Cecil Coey (299th Combat Engineer Batallion) helping a medic on Omaha Beach on Dday. We found the exact place where the picture has been shot, "fox red" section. Picture can be seen on the book Omaha beach, Heimdal publishing, page 112. Cecil was 19 years old.

A romantic strool along the river in Bayeux. Bayeux is the ideal place for staying in Normandy. Close to the dday beaches, not far from Mont Saint Michel. A lovely medieval city by itself. Plenty of hotels, bnbs and restaurants, and direct train connection with Paris.
