A few hundred of these big Fruit Bats make their home in the trees near near Wat Phnom, one of the most important temples in Phnom Penh, taking off in search of fruit each evening at sunset, returning each morning. 3 flights and 2 days later...here we grow again, spreading our projects into Cambodia!
A different kind of wildlife is present among the ruins of the ancient, intricately carved stone cities & temples of Angkor Wat. The power of the passage of time and history is everywhere among the ruins as we begin with a few days in Siem Reap, acclimatizing to the serious heat & humidity.

on our last day in the bush, they came out, and came real close, as if to say "see you next time!"
So close were the rhino family, especially the curious young one, and the dad who came between, that we got nervous and created distance.
Wildlife is wild life.
Even if our ever-growing population and subsequent development surrounds the protected wilderness spaces they inhabit.
All the more reason for sustainable, scalable community development that recognizes and supports their peaceful coexistence.

Wild life is wild life and always unpredictable, even surprising those who would know better.
The vehicle below was attacked by a bull elephant in heat, which is known as musth, and manifests as a secretion on the skin behind the eyes and an agitated and aggressive state as the male searches for a female.
In addition to rolling and stomping on the vehicle, the elephant put his tusk through the roof and the seat below so the ground beneath the vehicle is visible.
Yikes!
Luckily everyone inside the car survived.

And then this happened. How we love life on the road! Thanks Anthony & Melissa for warm hospitality, and Sulimani for the magic you made with Jeff, who has the most lovely ability to find the right sound to compliment whatever singing he hears; in this case, a traditional Masai song with Jeff adding a uniquely contemporary twist.
